The windshield shade that I used with my last car has more of a rectangular shape that doesn't seem to fit the more square shape of the prius due to the long raked windshield. There is some exposed dash towards the front if its pulled up enough to be held in place by the visors.

Curious what sun shade those here are using to get the best coverage on the windshield.

    I use this one.
Not the most compact when folded up, but does a great job covering the windshield and folds up easily.

I prefer the folding version of the AutoHeatShield model TT-928.

It's pricey at $71 but I've been very happy with the accordion fold (compared to rolling the others). Heat rejection is also excellent in my experience.

The KMF sun shades arrived. A couple thoughts after a day of use.
    1. It is nice to be able to fold up the windshield sunshade.
    2. It is probably overkill to put up the sunshades on all of the side windows everyday but they do fit well and stay in place.
    3. The hatch glass sunshade I will probably use regularly and it fits well too and will stay in place when tucked in.

The sun shades come with a couple of pouches for storage. Overall I am happy with it so far and prefer it to the Automate because it fits the windshield better, stays up close to the glass and is easier to store.

Figured i would update this. After looking around at options I decided to try something cheap. I had to make some modifications for it work the way I wanted. The thinking behind it seems sound. Block the sun before it gets in the car. It seems to do the trick. It still is fairly warm inside but definitely seems to have reduced the temp. And the piece of mind that the uv rays arent hurting the dash or the camera pod at the top of the windshield. Long term reliability remains to be seen so well see.

I'm pretty sure I found mine in a generic auto parts store, and checked that it claimed to fit my Prius year.

The one I found is the style using fabric with a spring wire around the edge; grab two opposed sides and give a little twist and it loops itself up to a fraction of the size just like that, and stashes easily beside a seat or wherever. To deploy, just unstash and let go, and it sproings back out to full size.

The one that was advertised as fitting my Prius was the first I've seen to be made of two such panels. Stowing it is just a matter of sliding one panel over the other and then doing the little twist so they both fold up. Deploying is just letting them sproing out, then sliding the two panels apart to cover the whole windshield.
