Weird nose, hybrid fan and feeling sluggish

    Hello. So this sound I would hear on occasion. Now it is much more frequent. No warning lights on the dash. Previously, it would only come on after I hit the brake pedal and occasionally a few times during a drive. Now it is more frequent. Today my car felt sluggish and I could hear the hybrid battery fan which I don’t usually hear. Also, the battery level quickly drops to two bars more frequently now too.

    Try a little more explanation of the symptoms.

    If it's the brake booster you would hear it better under the hood, driver's side at the firewall. If this is the noise with no codes it means it is worn but still working. How long? Could be a week or a year.

    The hv battery fan usually is louder because the battery is hot, perhaps a clogged blower but just as likely a failing hv battery if it discharges fast.

    Adding a location to your profile could help someone direct you to a reduced price hybrid shop.

    what is the outside temp?
    what kind of driving?
    have you cleaned the battery cooling fan?

    That’s a loud noise, do you hear it in the engine bay when you open the engine hood? You gotta pin point where the noise is before you know what part is the issue…

    So I had an opportunity to hear where the sound is coming from. See it too. It is the brake actuator pump behind the master cylinder.
    Also, the intake vent for my battery cooling fan was blocked with dog hair. Cleaned it all out. Should be better there.

    2 new questions have arisen.

    #1: How often should the brake actuator pump cycle on and off, when just sitting at idle?
    #2: Could a low brake fluid level contribute to it cycling more frequently?

    #1: not at all often enough to notice, unless you're sitting in the car long enough to read a book or something.

    #2: only if low enough to allow air to be sucked in. your photo does not show it that low.

    A dealer Techstream driven flush will fix it. For one day.

    Your best bet is to find an independent hybrid experienced shop in your area who will likely give you a good price compared to a dealer. Specify new oem parts only (there are no rebuilt or aftermarket parts). Save a couple of thousand over the next few months.
