OEM spare tire install

Total approximate miles on tire? I'm wondering when to replace my OEM tires.

 

It happened around 50,000 kms (30,000 miles).

 

Here's what I did. Just used what i had and cut it to fit the tire in. Going to get the bolt down to hold it in place, and I have the Cabling protected under the spare as well. I'm not spending $400+ for some Styrofoam inserts.

 

So why doesn't Toyota give you that option?

that’d be the option most every buyer would take. See what’s wrong with this business model? The only thing that’ll turn this trend around is a boycott.

 

That's what I did and it worked out fine. Tip: Mazda CX-5 jacks are good quality. Check your junkyards.

 

Last month, I picked a set of OEM 19s for a great price. Now I have my 17s as an extra set of wheels, my plan is to use one of them as my spare, hence now I'd have a full size in the trunk, granted it'll take some space and add weight. But now i'll have 3 wheels in the garage, unless I find buyers for each that would like a full size spare lol

 

Would someone please review this parts list for an XLS (Nightshade) 2025 AWD Prius for accuracy? (I am still debating whether to use the rip-off expensive foam inserts, or carve up my existing white storage bin.)

* Foam Insert for Deck Floor (Spare Tire Support):
* Part No. 64778-47090 
This molded foam piece supports the spare tire and keeps your trunk floor level.
* Box, Deck Floor – Right:
* Part No. 64995-47080 
Foam insert for the right side around the spare (contains cutouts for jack/tools).
* Box, Deck Floor – Left:
* Part No. 64997-47100 
Foam insert for the left side (supports and levels the deck floor).
* Protector, Spare Wheel Carrier (Brackets over electronics, AWD only):
* Part No. 51978-47010 
Metal cover to protect wiring/electronics (important for AWD models).
* Flange Nuts (for bracket):
* Part No. 90178-A0132 
(or trip to the hardware store) Use 3 of these to secure the bracket.
* Spare Tire Hold-Down Bolt/Screw:
* Description: Long bolt with handle to keep tire secure; can be sourced from a salvage yard or ordered new. 
(Exact part number may differ, depending on Prius model year.)
Extra Stuff
* Scissor Jack, Lug Wrench, Wheel, Tire:
* Source these from a salvage yard or purchase new. Verify size compatibility with your Prius.
