    Just had the driver front wheel bearing (just the bearing) replaced. It required HEAT and HAMMER and PRESS.
    My question…..is the bearing directional? That is, is it required to go in with an inside vs outside, one way only. The reason I ask is…the wheel speed sensor on the driver front is throwing a code, and I’ve lost cruise, traction, and stability control functions.
    Thanks for the help.

    I don't know about the c specifically, but definitely the older Prii, gen 1 through gen 3, have hub-bearing units in front that aren't designed to have (just the bearing) replaced. It seems strange to me that a Prius c would be different.

    The skid ECU has a built-in, extra-sensitive "signal check mode" that is meant to be used after any work on bearings or wheel sensors to make sure the sensors and connectors are fully up to snuff. Because it's an extra-sensitive mode, it should detect any issues before the car is returned to the customer, that might only show up later in normal use. In the repair manual, doing this check is the last step of any wheel bearing job. If the shop doing the job skipped that step, they should now do whatever they need to do so the sensor works right again and passes the check.

    Edit: looked around some, looks like the c uses the same "generation 1 hub bearing unit" style that the Prius gen 1 used in front (Prius generations and hub bearing generations are their own different things, but it happened that gen 1 Prius used the gen 1 HBU style). That kind is installed with a press, and looks pretty much like a bearing, except it's really a pair of angular-contact ball bearings facing opposite and sharing a single one-piece outer race.

    It turns out, apparently, I knew this three years ago. :) Cobwebs....

    And that thread back then also mentioned that the magnetic strip for the wheel speed sensor is included in the bearing unit, so probably it can be installed with the strip in the wrong position so the sensor won't work,

    Thank you for that info.
    I have a follow-up related question(s);
    First, I ordered a complete steering knuckle unit from Rock Auto (Dorman). It bolted up great….except, turns out it was for a Scion xD with a 5 bolt (instead of 4 bolt) pattern.
    This is the reason we got into the situation generating the start of this thread.
    My question; can I purchase the correct hub assembly (replace the 5 lug) and use it with the knuckle unit that Rock Auto may not take back?
    Thanks Again
