How to shift to Neutral for wheel bearing testing or towing?

Not hard when virtually anyone with a Prius can test it in one minute.

It's also useful information when the car has to be moved out of a tight spot for towing and won't go to Ready. It worked for me even when the Inverter failed.

No, you're just that stupid. You prove it over and over and over again every time you post with no other goal other than starting an argument where you can then try to claim being a victim. You're just a pitiful example of a person, great example of a troll.

My sincere apologies to everyone, I did not intend to start such a sh*it storm. As the header in my post stated, it was the "Stupid Question of the Month."
To answer ChapmanF's question: my 'deduction' on how to unlock the transmission was gleaned from reading as many posts as possible trying to find an answer. I did not find my deduction posted anywhere in this forum - it was distilled from what I had read... therefore my 'Stupid Question' post... I felt my deduction was unsafe, and there had to be a safer way.
ChapmanF's detailed response on the correct & safe procedure was much appreciated... illustrating why 'crowdsourcing' the collective braintrust in this forum is such a valuable resource. I wouldn't be able to own, maintain & drive a 17-year-old Gen 2 Prius if it wasn't for this forum. I have a Gen 2 Volt now, but I'm keeping my Prius - it's a great car. Thanks again to all contributors for sharing their knowledge, experience, expertise & opinions.

Failure! I finally got around to trying to trouble-shoot an annoying noise in/on a front wheels of my Gen 2 and executed the prescribed procedure to put the car in 'ON' but not running: (Pressed the 'ON' button twice without touching the brake pedal). But, although the car is not in 'Ready', it will NOT shift into Neutral, and the display remains in 'P'. I've tried varying the timing between the first & second pressing of the 'ON' button; holding the shift arm in 'N' or repeatedly moving it to 'N'; doing both simultaneously; running the car, placing it in 'N', shutting it off, etc. But no 'N'... nothing... de nada... rien... crickets. The transmission remains locked and the car will not go into 'N' ...unless it's in 'Ready' (i.e. running with the motor turning on & off periodically).
Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Nothing in your question needs any apology. The storm started without you.

Robert John, after you turn the car on by pressing the Start button 2x without touching the brake pedal, you can and must press down the brake pedal before the car will let you shift out of Park to Neutral.

Thanks for GBTM. After making a list of all the variations I had tried, I noticed I had never pressed the brake pedal to place the car in Neutral AFTER the first two steps WITHOUT the brake pedal (incorrectly assuming that NOT pressing the brake pedal was a necessary part of the sequence).
    D'oh! ;-)
