Love our 2012 Prius Plug-in.. best car we've owned, Looking to potentially upgrade to a 2023 Prius Prime SE. Does anyone have any experience with getting 2 road bikes in it (front wheels removed) with the rear seats folded down obviously? and anyone camped in theirs? Also, have an ORU Haven 14' kayak which fits perfectly in the trunk area (with paddles and PFD's on the side) without folding down the rear seats. Yeah, we call it out RV and the 2023 might not measure <pun> up to the 2012 .. but I do like the additional EV range and that 1500 inverter,
    Thanks all

I remember countless trips where I'd pop off the front wheel and toss my bike into the back. My 2012 Prius plug-in was sold to a friend long ago (and I still see it from time to time). I put a hitch for bikes on the 2017 Prius Prime the day I got it. A roof rack for the 2 kayaks was a must too. Years later, those ended up being good choices. My wife took over kayak carrying, since she still has Prius Prime. The hitch rack went from the hanging kind to the platform kind, since my primary bike is now much heavier... an e-bike... which cannot be carried inside.

Long story short, consider the expense of a hitch rack. If you're going to keep the 2023 for a long time, that could be worth it.

My Specialized Roubaix would not fit in my 2024 Prius Prime. Frame size 61cm. I had to continue using my truck to haul my bike. I have the Prime so I don’t know if the non Prime / PHEV cars trunk dimensions differ.

    Cheers

One should fit, though I've only tested it with a 54cm frame. Two might fit if you stack them with a blanket between, but I would never do that to nice bikes.

The cargo room in the 2023 is considerably smaller than in the 2012 you're used to.

I have a 2023 Prius Prime SE and am able to fit my 2013 FUJI NEWEST 3.0 road bike in the back with both rear passenger seats down. For my single road bike, I do not need to remove the bike's front wheel. The roof of the Prius slopes down quite a bit towards the back of the car, so it's most likely gonna be a bit tight getting the bike in as compared to your 2012 Prius, but it's totally doable. As for 2 road bikes with the front wheels removed, although I've never tried it, I'd be confidant that I'd be able to get it done. however, I'd highly recommend placing a towel or something in between the 2 road bikes to protect the paint and components. My bike frame is a 54" FWIW. Good luck!
