2010 Prius. Bought used with only 1 key fob. Want to add a spare key fob. In the past was able to buy a key fob off eBay for a 2008 Prius and program it by doing the chicken dance (process of pushing various buttons and opening and closing door in a specific sequence). Can 2010 Prius key fobs be programmed this way as well, or do 2010 require a visit to the dealer?
Making a new key for a 2010 requires a simple scanner with the key program function (Techstream or similar). No chicken dance. You can probably look up local locksmiths, they may do it for less than a dealership.
No easy way, you need Toyota Techstream laptop or equivalent. Dealer or some locksmiths. You can DIY Techstream (medium difficulty) , you need a laptop and a OBD2 bluetooth module TOYOTA Techstream V18 2024 – Full Installation Guide USB Version VXDIAG VCX NANO for TOYOTA - OBD2 Diagnostic Tool – VXDIAG Official Website
Thanks. Since there is no slot to stick the key fob in I figured the chicken dance was no longer an option.
I bought a OBDII Techstream cable years ago for $25 off of Amazon. It came with free cloned software. It b was easy to add an additional key, but it had to be new and never previously programmed. You should not have it connected to the internet, since it will require that you sign on to Toyota's master computer.
