Anyone know why an audio touchscreen is rarely responsive? You push it over and over and it often doesn't respond. I have the same problem turning it on and off sometimes, or switching from stereo to phone mode. If it's just busted, is that normal, and how much to fix?

Well your car is getting close to 14 years old and so is the sound system... And because a used replacement is going to cost the same or more as a 2025 touchscreen car stereo it's an opportunity to upgrade with way more features and better integration and performance!

But what's the cause and what's the cost?

Pull it and clean it with compressed air / all the usual other cleaning tricks and try again. Most of the time these problems are just basic end of lifespan problems of a device that had some type of additional wear and tear or manufacturing defect compared to others...

It can be taken out? Why would it break prematurely? No wear and tear just usual use. How long do these things last?

Has anybody tried unplugging the touchscreen ribbon cable, swabbing the end with contact cleaner, and plugging it back in?

Could require a visit to the calibrate-touchscreen screen afterward.

I despise touch screens, about as much as I hate teflon.
