i was wondering what should i do, previous owner did not do any maintenance at all. the car have 180k miles. I am planning to do the following maintenance Tranny Fluid change Brake fluid Change Oil/filter Change Spark Plug Change Coolant/Inverter Fluid Change Water PUmp - ?? Thermostat - ?? PCV valve - ?? let me know if i miss any other stuff
I'd first change the motor oil and filter, then I'd start looking to trade for a new set of wheels instead of flushing more money down the toilet.
i would do everything in the maintenance schedule. have you looked at the owners website to see if any dealer services were ever performed?
Attached is a summary of the gen 4 Prius maintenance schedule, based on Toyota USA’s Warranty and Maintenance Booklet. If missing that booklet can be downloaded from Toyota Tech Info website, under the Manuals tab. are you intending to DIY all or some?
do you know if the gen4 Prius is same as gen2 and gen3 wheres the cat is very popular and get stolen? If so I might get a cat shield
toyota has reduced precious metals with each generation. what thieves know, and how often gen4 cats are stolen may prove difficult info to find. some here have added a shield. if it is still bad in san fran, it might be a good idea. on the other hand, if the cat has not been replaced, and the exhaust coolant heat exchanger starts leaking, you have to replace the cat as a unit.
