Has anybody come up with a cool and creative way to mount/power a StarLink Mini in the Gen 5 yet? Wanting to avoid installing a roof rack/crossbars for now.
I have one mounted on a Thule Caprock which is mounted on 4th Generation OEM Toyota crossbars(which are actually Thule). Then have a Anker SOLIX C300 in the little empty space that is lower than the deck on the driver side. The power for the Starlink runs from the hatch to the roof through the grommet near the driver side brake light. Currently I have a power supply running plugged into a 150 Watt DC to AC inverter that charges the Solix from the 12V power outlet in the front. I am in the process installing a 12V outlet in the hatch so I don't have to run a cable down the middle of the car. Waiting for a couple of parts from impex and Aliexpress before I can complete the installation of the 12V in the hatch. Like this harness I learned about from soft_r's post #1. I use the Starlink mini for my home internet too and have an IP68 ethernet coupler attached to the Caprock that I can plug/unplug to my home router. When I am at home I leave the car in room mode plugged-in the the EVSE which keeps the power on to the 12V outlet. The Anker Solix enables the Starlink mini to remain on between cycling the power on the car. The current setup is pretty stable and it has been a work in progress. I was using the Anker iPhone 167.5 Watt 12V car charger to charge the Solix but due to an algorithm built into the Solix it will not maintain a charge above 10% using this method which is required to use the 100 watt usb port on the Solix to power the Starlink. I now have the 167.5 w charger plugged into the DC port on the Solix which does not shut off when the charge of the Solix drops below 10%. Probably more info than you wanted. I tried to mount the Starlink mini to the inside of the panoramic glass and used this method for about a month or so before installing the rack. Starlink mini overheats in the sun when inside. I measured the temperature at one point inside the panoramic glass where starlink was mounted and it was much hotter than the inside of the car. Outside the car Starlink Mini is much more stable and they sell a mount that fits well on both the Thule Caprock and the Toyota OEM 4th gen Prius bars.
