Hey gang, bought a used 2015 Prius V a few days ago. Every time I start the car I have to hold the brake and press the start button three times before the ready light comes on. Is this some kind anti-theft device the previous owner installed? I thought it was because the 12v battery was low, but I installed a new Toyota battery and it's still the same.
Have you charged up the 12 volt yet? A new 12volt doesn't necessarily show up off the shelf fully charged. Putting a fresh charge on a battery is the first step that too many people don't know about. Beyond that there should be a series a lights responding to each button push. Also what happens with lights without foot on brake pedal, as well when you touch the fob to the power button while powering up. Lastly, if you disconnect the 12volt battery for a few minutes it's equivalent of solving your problem by shutting off and turning back on your computer.
Depress and hold brake and one Power Button press should bring up Ready iin a second or two. The engine may not start. That is ok. You just need Ready to drive. Otherwise something is wrong. I would check with your second fob. If you don't have a second fob, get one right away. I would change the fob batteries as well. Page 459. Check the owners manual page 172 on how to start the car. A dead fob can Ready the car by holding it on the Power button and then press the button with the brake on. No manual? Download from toyota, com.
If you got some sort of warranty with that purchase, I'd make them fix it. Even if it is a cheap fob battery. It somehow passed their multi-point check out, like that????
