Hello Fellow Prius Prime owners (2023+) I live up north and the white stuff is expected soon. So, I need to switch to winter tires soon. Anyone know how to remove the hubcaps to access the lug nuts? I tried a few things and it refuses to budge, I am afraid I am gonna crack and destroy the plastic caps. Please help with any instructions or videos. Thanks in advance
17" or 19" rims? Assuming 17" rims, with the full wheel covers: There's a section in the Owner's Manual, for vehicles with spare tires, that describes removing the wheel: Just my 2 cents: if you can fit hands through the opening, you might try yanking there, and work your way around. The only ones I've done lately are Tesla model 3, and they're tough to break loose.
I got a good grip on two of the five spokes and pulled quickly with a lot of force. Yes, they feel fragile. None of mine broke..
I'll never break them because I'll not put them back on unless I am selling the car. I prefer the uncovered wheels, and am not interested in putting them back just so an urban entrepreneur can pop them off.
Thanks everyone I tried poking with the wrench but no joy Eventually I just yanked them out took a bit of force but thankfully nothing cracked I agree it looks a lot better without the hubcaps. However, I feel since they cover the lug nuts its a good thing as they will prevent water, salt and snow from getting inside and rusting the lug nuts We shall see.... Cheers! Anish
The centre, hub opening is also a rust concern. Centre caps are best for preventing that. The caps for 19” rims are likely/hopefully compatible. If you’re just putting the full wheel covers on, brushing a little anti-seize on the hub helps allay rust.
On a somewhat facetious note, would you prefer the silver-colored anti seize, or the gold colored? I think I'd go for the gold. edit: someone recently measured and purchased some off Amazon, as I recall. edit2: #37 , eBay
I’ve got the silver, Permatex brand. Use it for wheel hubs, sparingly, and brake pad, shim and caliper contact points. Have a new tub on hand, but still digging out remnants from the old one, likely bought that in the eighties lol. the gold looks cool though, have seen that when dealership did brake service. Not sure of the differences.
