I just bought a fixer upper. 2012 v wagon. My main question is when the brake system fails according to the toyota customer support program for this issue, what parts can or should be used. The parts new are quite pricey, just trying to save a buck, ill even rebuild the assembly if someone points me to the right parts. BTW it is currently showing all the dash lights and the brake pedal does feel weird to me. Car was diagnosed by Toyota dealer.
Used parts are the only cheap option and they are risky since many versions exist even for your model and year. On top of that, you could get a bad one. Rebuild parts, aftermarket brake boosters or rebuilt brake boosters are not available. The right way to save money is to buy new parts from an online Toyota dealer after you shop several sites. 25-50% off assemblies has been available with the highest discounts during national holiday events. Some have free shipping and all will ensure the right part when you supply a vin. After installation, a special bleed and calibration procedure using Toyota Techstream is needed. Some high end scanners are reported to work as well.. Many get stuck on this step especially with the low cost hacked Techstream software and a cheap mini-vic hardware obd2 interface. Often the best solution is an independent hybrid shop with experience in this repair. They get a deep discount from Toyota and have the proper tools. Example for some 2012v's Master Cylinder 47050-47110 Gasket 44785-02060
Well, I guess the safest way is to just buy the new parts, should I replace the actuator/pump first? Or is this just going to be one of those times where I learn from everyone elses lesson and just replace the brake assembly with ABS and the pump at the same time? Im well aware of the CSP from Toyota on this issue. So I know that Toyota says to replace both. But do they both really need to replaced? Youve got me sold on new parts and I knew it was best but I have zero problems with self installing even with getting an appropriate techstream or compatible tool. But if the discount they get equals the total price of me doing it myself without a discount then ill just let the shop do it. All the other parts look the same but I know for a fact the computers are different, even physically different from each other. Im still curious if the computers can be swapped. Is there a gasket between the computer and the ABS block? I tell you what since curiosity has me and this is a forum. If I put all new parts in I will disassemble the old one and figure out the mechanical differences, it may save someone some money down the road and offer a cheaper repair option that does not compromise the use of an old part that may fail soon anyways.
I doubt you need the pump. If you are confident in your diy skills just replace the master cylinder assembly. The built in skid ecu can't be swapped, at least I have never heard of it. I would not try it. The firewall gasket comes separate. Hybridpit in Socal tried rebuilding for a period but required you to send your part in and wait for it to be returned. They stopped trying to rebuild probably because of warranty issues. I would message the seller with your vin and tell him you need the part numbers.
