My beloved, indestructible 08 touring got the cat stolen a year ago. After the theft my mechanic did an aftermarket setup with a Toyota o2 but the CEL will not go away and was not able to pass my state inspection all this time. We are on the final 3 weeks of the state registration and will turn in the plates the day of. Got this car when I had my first kid and we do road tips to Canada, Vermont, Atlanta, Tennessee and FL consistently and flawlessly. Had little to post here all this time due to the build quality of this wonder. Toyota had to change the steering box many moons ago and that's it. My first front brake change was at 228 000 miles. It has 296 472 now and we are not free for a road trip until end of December. We were looking forward to making the video of the clock turning 300 000 as we have the 100 000 and 200 000 clock turning videos. Couldn't imagine this family without a Pri so two days ago I bought a 2012 plugin with 200 000 miles. This weekend I will scan through the Gen 3 forums and get comfortable but thus far the radio sucks and the engine is louder than I expect.

If only Gen 2 had the EV button it would rule the world.

you still have time to get it to 300k. just go drive it. The miles will add up quickly.

I really liked my 2008 too. My 2011 was also very dependable. I think there is a thread somewhere in PC stating that the Gen II odometer goes back to zero after 299,999 miles. I'll try and find it later today.

The odometer on the 2004-2005 gets to 299,999 miles and then stays there. They fixed it in the 2006-2009.

It's hard saying bye to our favorite vehicles. I, still, miss my 2005 Toyota Tacoma...she was my first Toyota Truck. (Replaced her with a 2014 Tundra which I, also, love....just not the 16 mpg!! The V-6 in the Taco got around 24mpg)

I saw an old, small Taco, 2002, for sale but she was pretty beat up and you could tell the owner wasn't a DIY'ers....windows didn't even roll all the way up,. He was asking way too much for it...I think around $8,000...but it's gone so must've got a sucker to buy it or came down on that price.

Would it help to buy an OEM used catalyst from a salvage car on marketplace for a few hundred and pass your State inspection? Many have been replaced with OEM by insurance in the past 4-5 years when it was the peak of theft and have low mileage since then.

There is a kit to add an ev button to a gen2. Not that important unless you need to sneak out in the middle of the night.

There are gen2 aftermarket cats that do clear codes and keep them off.

I have seen them last years with no codes.

Napa 16337 is the same cat

That is an EPA approved catalytic converter. NY is a CARB state. CARB approved catalytic converters are substantially more expensive. The one on this link:

    2007 Toyota Prius Catalytic Converter

is almost $2686. That said, going to

    Aftermarket Catalytic Converter Database

and looking up for a 2007 Prius shows some that have a sort of exemption, not sure how that works out in practice, it is legalese.

    Executive Order

That link may be using cookies, the document in question for Walker cats starts with:

    EXECUTIVE ORDER D-182-81
Relating to Exemptions under Sections 27156 and 38391
    of the California Vehicle Code
    Walker Manufacturing Company
    “Series 85000 and 85100 Three-Way Catalytic Converters”

    and finally gets to

THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that Walker’s series 85000 and 85100 TWCs are
exempted from the prohibitions in VC Sections 27156 and 38391 for installation on the
approved vehicle applications specified in Appendix D-182-81 subject to the following
    conditions:

    (a whole page of conditions)

Walker has a tool to look up approved cats

Exhaust Parts Lookup | Walker Exhaust Systems

and they do not list one for a 2007 Prius for California or New York. So what use is the exemption good for? Looking at "all other states" there are three entries, including the one in the preceding post, and they say not legal in CARB states.
