Why does non-synthetic oil still exist?

i use it in my tractor that has an engine designed in the 1940's. Yes, fuel is gravity fed and it uses a generator to charge the battery. Plugs, points. coil & distributor too.

To your point, the real problem starts with William Patterson who created debt-based government financing when he created the Bank Of England in 1694:

Fewer oil changes is not a hardship.

I guess that means I'll have to start a newsletter? What would you like the newsletter to be about?

    Likewise.

At least in the U.S., that is no reason to ban any ordinary consumer product. Tons of much worse products stay on the market.

    Seriously? That's fairly myopic.

Regarding automotive fluids that should be outlawed, I'd nominate stop-leak products for engine coolant.

It could be argued that non-synthetics cause premature engine wear.

Similarly it could be argued that NOT changing your oil often enough, causes premature engine wear - regardless whether it's synthetic or conventional. Heck for that matter, people that are picky must REALLY have fits if they discover reclaimed (re-refined) motor oil is still in use. When we were kids, poor side of town, that's all many folks could afford for an oil change. Modernly, crude costs versus the labor necessary to clean old oil (add additives) is such that the reclaimed market goes to other sources rather than the automotive crankcase.

I have stretched oil changes to as much as twice a year using synthetics, with no ill effects that I could see. I haven't had an engine wear out in over 30 years, and some of them have gone over 300k.
