I have a 2012 Prius V I have a problem with the headlights. I had a headlight out on the passenger side then the drivers side went out. I replaced them both. When I did this they both worked and the lights came on but they don’t throw any light on to the road. They gave lots of light on the road before but now there seems to be nothing.any suggestions on a fix for this.
We will assume they are standard halogen and you are talking about the H11 low beams and not high beams. First the plastic headlight assembly can get rather cloudy and significantly reduce light. I use Sylvania's Headlight Restoration kit and carefully follow instructions. It works for a year or two. An option is to let Walmart or a shop do it for maybe $50. A more expensive but longer lasting option is to replace the headlight assemblies with new oem or aftermarket. Second you can buy more powerful halogen light bulbs but they burn out much quicker. Still need to clear the headlight plastic. Third and perhaps the strongest low beams are led retrofit bulbs. These are technically illegal in most states and are sold as h11 foglights. They are all aftermarket and most fail quickly, blind oncoming drivers, sometimes cause interference to the cars computers and or cost a lot. Most have annoyingly loud fans to dissipate heat. One possible exception except for possible legality is the "AUTOONE H8 H9 H11 Light Bulbs, Direct H11 Replacement 99% Compatible, Fanless Mini Size"
The bulbs may not be properly seated in the headlight assemblies, which would affect their geometry, aim, and the amount of light apparent on the road ahead.
