I originaly bought junk yard assemblies but still had problems with lights intermittenly working. I use to need to turn the switch multiple times for them to come on. Often only one would work. After bypassing the ballast and going leds no more problems. I also dropped $250 on dna smoked healight assemblies from walmart online. I have a greenbean battery that is a year old. Both front fenders are wrecked and i havent found replacements at my local junkyard. My paint is oxidating. I changed the plugs and cleaned the intake and maf. One of the old spark plugs was covered in oil. My mpg jumped tp 45 after that. My mfd is trash. Sprayed primer on the top. My hatch is leaking. I sprayed the heck out of it with gorilla spray silicon. It still leaks but less. Check the back corners for water under the cubbies. I changed the trans oil. I had youtube videos on everything even the headlights but deleted them. I also pulled rims and tires of a prius in the junkyard and changed them because my tires were trash. I also paid 3k for car. Its saving me gas compared to my caravan but hopefully can be a daily driver for at least a few years to get my money back out of it. Overall its been a great car but ive only had it 3 months.
--------- Wow, whatever the opposite of TLC is, it sounds like the $3k car you bought had been living under those conditions. Reliability is just around the corner! Interesting about the oily spark plug and the improved mileage. Did you have any indications of a bad plug? Mine only has about 150k on it but I am the original owner. I think it might have the original plugs because I used to take it to the dealer when it was under warranty and can't remember if plugs were ever changed. My mileage runs about 41 to 46 depending on how often I reset it.
My car has 142k. I changed plugs to do it. It wasnt hard. The old plugs werent failing. The hids were failing. It came with the greenbean battery and the date of installation was on battery lable. The car had bad tires so i pulled wheels and tires from a junkyard prius $250 and swapped them. $250 for the new lights Other than that it still has wrecked fenders faded paint and very dim mfd. So i plan to do the oil, pcv valve and tran oil again at 145 and wash the engine bay with degreaser. Prob bout 4k in thus far.
