I would like to change my Gen 3 battery to a latest one and want to know if anyone knows which of the 2025 Rav4 trim has the Ni-MH cells.
There are few options on ebay but most are not familiar with the internal cell type.

Do you know if true for earlier model years as well? There is better selection of previous years as well.

In 2022 nimh was hybrid le and xle. No guarantee on size, voltage or connections of modules but you could check with the sellers.

For other years go to Toyota.com and download the rav4 ebrochure for a given year.

Thanks, that teaches me how to fish, which is great. I wondered where you were pulling it up from.

Also, Co-pilot came up with this, not sure if correct:

    5th Digit = 6

    Configuration: Hybrid (non‑plug‑in), w/o plug‑in
    Battery Type: Nickel‑Metal Hydride (Ni‑MH)
    Notes:

    • This code appears on certain trims/markets using the 3NM hybrid system
    • NiMH is used for durability and cold‑weather performance
    • VIN example: 2T3R6RFV
Looking up RAV4's online, it appears to be contradictory.

This is an SE with a 6 for 5th digit, which according to the spec sheet is LI, not NIMH.

    2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid - VIN: JTM16RFV5ND070779

    Co-pilot is hallucinating again

My 2022 Rav4 XSE has a 6 in that vin digit. If it really codes battery type it would have to be lithium.

It can be blatantly wrong and still over confident. It will also profusely apologize for its mistakes and give you tremendous praise.

    It is old school GIGO
    Garbage In Garbage Out

    Example:
    A local Toyota dealer selling a 22 Rav4 Hybrid LE vin 4T3MWRFV9NU080540

    IMG_0381.jpeg

They list every spec in the book including the correct voltage (post 4 table) but get the battery type wrong - probably a salesman or manager that thinks all Rav4 hybrids of this generation are lithium.

Meanwhile the government vin lookup for the above

    IMG_0380.jpeg

If I decided the 5th digit was the battery type it would be a letter in this case. Which may be accurate.
