    You should, It's hilarious.

The greatest problem with a dash cam is that in the event of an accident, it will be taken as evidence against you. In rare cases, if it involves evidence that would exculpate, LE may destroy it.

I believe the broader problem your question suggests is that video and audio recording devices you buy and that are manufactured by people to whom your privacy isn't a concern, may be on when you didn't know they were working. That problem may be increased by a sense that governments and tech service providers aren't always distinguishable in operation. Being hit with ads about something you just talked about is annoying, but not the most harmful potential result.

With what we already know about how media/tech companies operated during covid lockdowns, how Internal Revenue handled non-profits under Lerner, and how LE may view defendant rights during even mundane traffic stops, it seems entirely reasonable to treat audio and video surveillance with caution.

What is less reasonable is to expect to work online in real life efforts to obstruct LE, and think that you were doing it privately. The internet is a virtual public square. Planning a criminal conspiracy like some of those involved in J6 and recent antifa/ICE efforts in that public square invites enforcement against criminal planning.

TLDR: If it's something you would be ashamed to say in public, don't post it.

Post it? I'm talking about talking to myself, the TV, the laptop, the phone, and so on. So, you have to be totally silent? Serenity Now! :)

You don't have to be silent, but if you litter your environment with devices that you know listen to you, you can't be shocked when they are used to listen to you.

People invite third parties into their lives for mere convenience. Orwell envisioned a brutal state that monitored people involuntarily. Apparently, the only necessary inducement was access to cat videos while we drive.

Siri's always listening I think? You can summon it with "hey Siri". Oops...

(maybe you can shut it down completely in Settings. Maybe...)

In gmail spam folder I just found an email supposedly from a well-known national health care firm offering dental insurance...or it so seemed as I did not open it.

Funny. I had just sent out a e-mail to a friend begging off a wilderness trip as I had a dental emergency.

    Makes ya wonder.

According to other reports ICE / DHS has purchased or subscribed to about all the world's best spyware, including the best publicly known Israeli products that can be remotely installed on phones without any user action whatsoever, and turn on the microphones to eavesdrop. And probably plenty of even better products not publicly known, which I'm fairly sure the NSA has plenty.

Apple, a company that I love to hate and hate to love showed ME their true colours a little over 10 years ago, when we were under a different regime. The FBI sought a court order under the All Writs Act to compel Apple to create software that would bypass the iPhone's password protection, specifically disabling auto-erase and passcode delay features.
They DID this because of a terror attack, in a nice, safe, gun-free zone......and (as they ALL do) the administration tried to weaponize the DOJ to do their bidding
IMO Apple won and their consumers lost - because, IIRC Apple told the DOJ to pound sand and the Febes outsourced their efforts with typical results.
    IYKYK.
Apple is not perfect...BUT in the words of a Marine friend of mine......they 'suck less.'
(ALSO I'm not aware that any of their CEOs ever went to Diddler's Reef.)

Windows went to a Fischer-Price inspired operating system a little before all this transpired and since then they have forced much of the free world to 'upgrade' hardware in order to be allowed the privilege to pay for a deeply flawed if not overtly malevolent operating system that their victims will be forced to replace AGAIN in about 5 years or so.
My CFO's iPhone 11 meanwhile, is aging gracefully and still software supported.

Apple may be following a 1980's GM inspired 'planned obsolescence' marketing scheme but their hardware is better than most and they do not force you to pay for the privilege of upgrading the operating system that they use to collect your user information AND they stood up to a pretty horribly run DOJ.

    Good Enough for me!
    Sample Size = 1.
    YOUR ACTUAL MILEAGE......may vary.

    HOWEVER (comma!)
I'm not idiotic enough to think
that a device with four "studio-quality" microphones, an equal number of super high def cameras, and not one....not two....or even three but SIX global navigation satellite receivers (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, and NavIC)....AND a direct-to satellite transceiver, AND cellular AND Wifi isn't ........"paying attention." ;)
