brake booster and pump failure

I just bought a fixer upper. 2012 v wagon. My main question is when the brake system fails according to the toyota customer support program for this issue, what parts can or should be used. The parts new are quite pricey, just trying to save a buck, ill even rebuild the assembly if someone points me to the right parts.

BTW it is currently showing all the dash lights and the brake pedal does feel weird to me. Car was diagnosed by Toyota dealer.

 

Well, I guess the safest way is to just buy the new parts, should I replace the actuator/pump first? Or is this just going to be one of those times where I learn from everyone elses lesson and just replace the brake assembly with ABS and the pump at the same time?

Im well aware of the CSP from Toyota on this issue. So I know that Toyota says to replace both. But do they both really need to replaced?

Youve got me sold on new parts and I knew it was best but I have zero problems with self installing even with getting an appropriate techstream or compatible tool. But if the discount they get equals the total price of me doing it myself without a discount then ill just let the shop do it.

All the other parts look the same but I know for a fact the computers are different, even physically different from each other. Im still curious if the computers can be swapped. Is there a gasket between the computer and the ABS block? I tell you what since curiosity has me and this is a forum. If I put all new parts in I will disassemble the old one and figure out the mechanical differences, it may save someone some money down the road and offer a cheaper repair option that does not compromise the use of an old part that may fail soon anyways.

 

Sounds like a deal, I used the campaign part numbers, I'm assuming these come with the gaskets?

 

My VIN is in the screenshot, plus I entered the Campaign part numbers so they are an exact match for 2012-2014 Prius v wagon. So the pumps arent the problem? It must be an internal failure of the master cylinder?

 

This is the Customer Support Program or CSP from Toyota, now expired for this vehicle due to mileage and time. The part numbers are in there, it says to use the Campaign part numbers.

 

So all I should need is the cylinder brake kit? Are you assuming from experience the pump is usually OK?

 

Part ordered. I just went with the brake booster kit. Makes sense given the pump is working and can hear it running every 5 sec. Pedal is squishy, then the pump runs alot, makes sense. Ill post the results, maybe a write up for the process but I believe there already is a DIY for this somewhere in the forums.

 

Id upload images but they require modifications to fit the file limits...part is in. I can indeed confirm the part number I ordered comes as a kit containing the complete booster, firewall gasket, cotter pin. Also has an advisory sticker to use the recommended techstream tool to bleed the brakes.

 

The install was quick and easy, removing the cowl and the reservoir, including the reservoir bracket is necessary for a smooth installation. I have a foxwell NT510 with a Toyota license added.

My battery died during the process on the charger...you gotta be fast and efficient... Ill let it charge up and finish the simulator bleeder on the ABS module tomorrow after the battery is full.

 

A little late for this question but how do I know if the pump has failed? I'm just curious the symptoms

 

As for the foxwell scanner, it's pretty confusing. The car runs drives and brakes. No dash lights.
