2021 Entune head unit in 2020 Prius Prime

I have a 2020 Prius Prime Limited, with the Entune head unit. The head unit only supports Apple CarPlay, but I don't own any iPhones and never plan to do so. I'm strictly an Android user.

I've been banging my head against a wall for about a month now, just trying to find some suitable solution to get Android Auto in the car with the existing Entune system. The Carlinkit 4.0 works okay, but...
    • It's slow to get started, and sometimes it doesn't start properly (car says "USB Error")
    • The resolution is wrong and everything is too small to touch easily, and the unit I have has some "VehiConn" firmware that doesn't allow for changing the resolution/DPI
    • The audio works in the car... for about 60 seconds, after which it fails over to my Bluetooth headphones during every single call
Using the Carlinkit 4.0 only ends up adding distractions when driving when it's supposed to do the opposite. I've tried other 'adapters' like the Carlinkit and all of them seem to just want to use the Android Auto protocol, and won't translate AA to ACP like I need it to.

Looks like the 2021 and newer XLT/Limited Priuses have Entune systems and they support Android Auto. If I were to get a 2021 Entune head unit and swap it into my car, would that solve the problem for good?

I asked my local Toyota dealership and they just said it was "not recommended" because the "head unit is the main computer of the car" or something very similar to that. If that's the case, that's fine... but I figured I'd ask in case someone's tried it or has any experience with this sort of thing, the dealership didn't seem confident in that answer at all. I've swapped head units in cars before and it didn't change impact functionality, but those have all been standard compared to these Entune units.

    Thanks!

(Apologies for double-posting, I don't see an edit button on my original post... but it's awaiting moderator approval so that may be why?)

Turns out the 2021 Limited, which also has this screen, also doesn't support Android Auto. I've seen some mentions of the 'carabc' unit accomplishing this but nothing for certain. Does anyone have any ideas?
