What about putting a fan with a thermistor and a relay with a second battery, the relay would charge the secondary battery when the vehicle is running.

This fan could go where the cabin vent exit is, which I believe is where the battery vents to anyway?

I would use a low power high CFM Noctua fan, would be quiet as well.

A good read. Worth reading for ideas.

If I can get my headliner removed, I wanna try a radiant barrier attached to the roof (metal side, with an air gap between it and the headliner). I already had plans to install ceramic film (no tint) on the windshield, but at $200 extra I opted to wait a month to let my finances breathe and just went with ceramic tint on the rest of the windows. I have a wireless temp sensor I can place in the car to test before and after.

I would also be willing to craft a wire that switches the fan to an alternate supply with the aforementioned thermistor. Relay a switch to have it change power and exhaust it out until the battery is drained. If current draw is too high the fan is PWM so I can vary the speed and play with that. If all else fails a Noctua fan running on a 100ah lifepo4 battery should be plenty of run time to exhaust out the rear vent flaps in the bumper, a solar panel somewhere would make the car more reliable as I would not have to degrade the cars systems to keep the cabin temps down. Heat soak will inevitably win though, slowing it down to a manageable air temp is the goal.

In hindsight a Tesla will self consume its power just to avoid advwrse extreme tempatures. You'd think it would be a smart idea for it to automatically drive itself into the shade

The web site does seem to say that—which sounds promising—but sure doesn't seem to say very much more than that. It's not like anywhere "individual BMS control" is a link to more information or anything. They don't seem to offer much in the way of tech specs.

So, it seems possible they have developed and brought to market a credible competing product to what mudder is working on. Maybe not easy to tell, though. Mudder has shown more of the work.

Its within reason why they dont show and tell. They dont want an oversaturated market of the technology to remain dominant. But there is nothing stopping someone from getting ahold of one and dismantling it.

FYI there is an account on here from vendor on PriusChat....thats how I came across these.

Understood. I have a personal preference for doing business with outfits that show their work. Others may or may not share that.

With Toyota, say, you can sign on to TIS and have all system explanations in the New Car Features manual, all the repair instructions in those manuals, the whole set of technical guides and technician-training coursework, and so on.

As far as aftermarket battery retrofits, mudder's thread does indicate that he probably will keep some details under wraps, for a while at least, but he already is showing a great deal of his work.

The technical details on this other outfit's web site seem to me to be nearer the sparse end of the expected range.

Reach out to Mudder over at Insight Central... He's the person willing to buy these to analyze and torture test them... Maybe you could work together on this and that opens the door to being a beta tester on his BMS design.

I did send a request for more info on the BMS, specifically charging safety measures.

I may purchase one of the 28 cells if they can sell a single one, just to see. Divide by 28 each cell comes out to about $70 USD. I can sacrifice $70 for a cause.

He doesn't check his PriusChat account very often and messaging him on Insight Central will only get a conversation if you first try to get the info you need by watching his videos and reading his posts. As in he's busy and gets lots of messages so you might not get a reply if you haven't done your homework first, especially if there isn't something in it for him, like a lower price on a battery pack he'd be interesed in testing.

    @mudder
I'd be willing to purchase a single cell for the cause and in the name of science and investment for this project.

I was referring to Innrg powers battery packs. I sent a request on their website.

BINGO. This is a much better explanation and a video at that. Thats the guy Zheng, I see the same name everywhere. They even say they can request demos. Phone numbers are available. I may give them a ring on Monday.

Fifty-nine seconds of waving at a circuit board flopped down from a battery blade and talking about what a BMS in general does, zero seconds of describing how that circuit board is a BMS that actually does any of that, zero seconds of video showing any additional electrical connections on the blades to support BMS interconnection among the 28 blades, or the data collection function he refers to.

This feels a lot like a place we've already been before with a different supplier of Li-ion retrofits.

Isn't it fun? Especially when the battery chemistry they're using has the ability to produce its own oxygen and burn your car into an empty toxic metal shell....
