Back to the HiD to LED conversion replacement. So in order for me to do this one the 2007, do I have to pull out the whole headlight assembly (like removing the front bumper and all that) or no need? Just bypass the ballast wiring and straight to the light switch wiring? Thanks, CCG
@Classic Car Guy Sorry for the late reply. I found it easier to do the work with the head lamp assemblies removed from the car. But you can get the headlamp assemblies out of the car a lot easier than "remove the bumper" method. with practice, you can have the assembly out of the car with a 10mm socket, a phillips and a small flat screw driver. Not a big deal at all. With the assemblies on the work bench you can do a lot better job. Here is how to get the assembly out of the car. 1. If you start on the driver's side, first turn the wheels full right. Look inside the front end fender well and remove the one 10mm bolt holding the black plastic mud shield in place. Remove the bolt underneath the frame holding the lower part of the front fender in place. now separate the lower fender from the upper by popping the joints apart. Toward the front end of that open joint you will see 2 black 10mm bolts. Leave those alone. Spread it a little more and above those 2 black ones you will see one silver 10mm bolt. Remove that one. It holds the lower corner of the headlight in place. That is bolt number one of 3 that secure the headlight into place. 2. The rest of it is under the hood. Pop the push-fasteners out of the black plastic that covers the radiator. You will be able to expose another 10mm bolt (it goes straight down) that holds the front corner of the headlight assembly in place. That is bolt number 2. 3. The 3rd 10mm bolt is at the back end of the headlight assembly, and it also goes straight down. Remove it. You should now be able to wiggle the headlight assembly free with minimal cursing but first: 4. Unplug the connectors and remove the assembly. 5. Now go to the beginning of this thread and see how I wired mine. You might want to do yours differently. It should go smoothly, but let me know if you have any questions. I wrote this post today just going on memory so I might have missed something. Lloyd
Yeah it takes about 10 minutes to undo two screws and pull back bumper cover. Headlights pulled back and lift up you do want to bypass ballast . The left quality bulbs for this are not 8 or 16 element type bulbs at all they're two cod elements on each side of the blade . They be fanless and no ballast nothing they wire straight to the connector in the black housing . that's straight 12V . Re assemble . You now by pass system index st 3 and 9. Should be golden.
Is your setup good enough without adding any 12 headlight volt relay? I mean If I cut the 12 volts direct wiring (before the ballast) that more likely came from the headlight switch can it take the amperage load of the new LED light bulbs. I can easily buy a relay and rewire it if there is a question about it because I use to work for my uncles electric shop. It's gonna take me an additional 3 hours to get the relay, make the wiring harness and plugs since i'm not really equipped for this job including I'm not sure if I can get 2 of these parts locally.
BTW I drove the car at presently 391 miles with city and hwy driving. For whatever it is I have 3 or maybe going to 2 bars left on the gas tank. Maybe not the best but not bad at all. I love it!
I'm gonna remove the water scales and polish the headlight covers tonight so it'll be ready when I install the new LED bulbs.
No relays just pickup 12V at the cover two wire plug in conn .close it up . You won't be back in there for your tenure with the car. Ballast bypass is perm. As you're on fixed 12 V unless battery fails . You may need to setup the housings for led . To get cutoff on wall etc
