Other things come to mind. When I disconnected the DCM, I did not disconnect the battery. I did have the key away from the car. Maybe if all else fails, reconnect the DCM, see if that restores the compass, then shut down the car and disconnect the DCM again and see if it sticks?

I think it's getting closer. It seems like it's 90 degrees out of whack.
I might take another drive after dinner, maybe do some circles counterclockwise this time.

Driving around with the diagnostic screen on showed:
-One, maybe two, yellow squares (Date/Time), and then disappear, but enough to snag the date/time and provide it to the dash
-No blue squares (Position). No Lat/Lon in diagnostic screen. Which is as it should be. :)

If it is indeed recalibrating itself, it would be nice if it could be sped up.
What speeds it up probably is the Lat/Lon info from the head unit, which is likely unavailable because there is no hardwired GPS antenna signal getting to the head unit. Although, the head unit can still sporadically pick up the time component without an antenna.

    That's my theory.
