First and foremost. Got a VXDIAG device to plug into the obd. Included with the purchase UPON REQUEST ONLY is the "free techstream".
    Wow shady.

They email you a google drive link, embedded within is a link to a sketch mirror site for the actual download.

Its a zip. Windows defender AI straight went nuts. Without even opening it. After much research, seems as tho its a real trojan, not just a patch. Recognized as Trojan:Script/Ulthar.A!ml

Apparently the cheap amazon cables that have the CD are guilty of this too.

just wanted to spread the awareness of if you do go this route, USE A DEDICATED LAPTOP that you are sure is free of any personal information. Preferably on a divorced, secure network.

--- side question. Legitimate TIS download techstream, what happens after the paid subscription window?
Any specific loss of features? Or just a dead brick wall of login screen?

Without a current subscription, you will not be able to login to the Techstream software on your computer.

All Techstream versions available from non Toyota sites are cheap and have instructions which say turn off virus check, don't go online or Toyota will deactivate and some features never worked even 15 years ago. You also had to run a registry hack. These never worked online but had 90% of the features off line including bidirectional controls.

The current Toyota subscription version will work online but is not the same Techstream in look, feel or features since Toyota went to a new graphical GTS+ version. It is tied to the subscription but will work offline for the subscription period once activated online. The minimum subscription that includes GTS+ is 2 days for $80.

In reality, many keep an old version on a XP or Win7 machine as a backup to easier to use but slightly limited Autel or Launch scanners, some selling for as low as $60 (usually with one brand requiring no recurring subscription).
