Hello all. My gen 3 Prius is approaching 145k and wanted to check what are the must do maintenance , not precautionary at that milestone ? I am trying to find a good and reasonably priced mechanic in the Los Angeles area- recs always welcome
1. Check for EGR restriction the easy way: Techstream EGR Valve Blockage Data | Page 3 | PriusChat. 2. Clean out EGR ports of intake manifold, if that hasn't already been done. 3. Prepare to change spark plugs and engine coolant, if they haven't been changed already. 4. Normal stuff like oil changes ... How much engine oil does it consume? Monitor coolant and oil levels closely.
It all depends on the maintenance that has already been done on the car. It appears that you get all the work done at a dealership. Do you keep the receipts from the previous work that has been done? If so, make a list starting with the most recent work done and the mileage when it was done. Continue doing this for the last 5 years of work done. Then, make a new post and write down all the work that has been done for the past 5 years so that we can make recommendations for what work should be done now on your car. You make the same request every 5k to 15k miles, but you never give a list with the work that has already been done on the car.
I also just scored a Gen3 with 145K miles recently. Revived it from the dead... My most recent thoughts have been on monitoring coolant system temps, especially electric water pump operating temp in new and unique ways... Also I have a failed AC condenser so I plan to replace the radiator at the same time will keep a spare pump on the shelf. Also been researching oil catch cans and learning about how to clean and inspect ABS sensors and suspension and drivetrain once I get it up on jack stands... And if you haven't done it yet new spark plugs and intake system cleaning is a good opportunity for a borescope to gauge engine lifespan by seeing what the insides of your engine look like. I bought a really nice $50 scope that plugs into my phone on Tiktok for like $8.
