So the real thing:
Buckle the belt and sit on it.

Be a normal human and forget you did that.

Drive off like that...

 

I was going to propose just sit on it while it is buckled. When you reach the road, do the right thing and save yourself from future angst (which I suspect you are well aware of.)

In a Subaru, they'd be subject to increasingly more insistent warning chimes until they finally buckle up. Mine doesn't wait until the car is moving before starting up on the noise.

I can see that being more of an hassle for trips through farm to local roads.

 

I have seen ‘seatbelt extenders’ that might work. JC Whitney.

I just Researched the seat belt beep in the Gen 2 Range Rover. mine is WAAYY louder and annoying then the Prius ..OMG that is the most annoying sound ever!

Seat belt reminder persistent chime is off now in my 2024 Prius! Yay! Owner's manual does NOT list it as a dealer customizable preference although it is in my 2013 Prius manual. So I had my doubts, but thought I'd try and ask at the dealer. The tech simply responded, "Which one(s) you want off? Rear, driver, or front passenger?" I told him both front seats off, and 1/2 hour of labor later it's done. I get the starting chime at key-on, but when that's done I only get the flashing red lights. The lights never quit - which is my reminder if needed. I'm not trying to beat the system. I'm stopping the headaches between my mailbox and my garage.

 

In the USA, cannot drive "legally" without wearing seatbelts AFAIK, but is there an exception for antique rigs?

I still have vivid memories of my dad throwing his right arm across my chest when I was a child and he had to make a quick stop in the 1962 Ford Falcon.

 

FORTUNATELY I drive vehicles made my a manufacturer that does not hate it's customers.
Below about 20mph I do not get nagged about the seatbelt.

UNFORTUNATELY, lawyers and malevolent government bureaucrats force OEMs to place weight sensors in seats that can fool even well meaning cars into chiming at you if you're hauling gear in a passenger seat.

I don't use these myself because when I'm traveling over about 20mph I nearly always wear seatbelts, and in other situations I can just buckle the belts in the other seats and set tools, boxes, children I don't like, etc over the belt on the seat.

 

my chevy starts chiming in at 14mph

 

I was saved (along with right-seat passenger) by wearing lap belts in a rolled VW bus. Half rolled actually at about 50 mph after being struck from behind by a much faster vehicle. This bad experience did not include serious injury and it led me to vow to use restraints (if not restraint) thenceforth forever.

As such I have little experience hearing such chimes.

Sort of half in Trollbait's corner, half in the triggered corner -- can't stand this bevy of nannies in modern cars. And most who are, tend to overlap w\ those used to being more proactive using them anyway.

That said... having been a motorcycle commuter a large chunk of my life... know what can happen to the human body unrestrained, there- but-for-one-click-ejects-Thee, at the kind of speeds and brinks modern pushbutton-heads drive like -- both having wrecked myself resulting in lifelong injury, and assisting at wrecks that happened right in front of me (mostly WA state).

If you want to use the doubler, nice to know it's there and rather affordable. But don't need it, only irritates me when I know it'll be nagging (like jumping in to move car a foot, and not belting).

 

As a young kid, I wanted to go along, when our downstairs tenant went to pick up a wood stove. This was in a 3-across, bench-seat pickup, and I was number 4, squeezed in between our tenant, Mr. Ewart, and the door.

Evidently the door was not "quite" latched: as we were driving it sprung open, Mr. Ewart near-instantly grabbed me. I do recall calmly look at the road rushing by.

Mr. Ewart was blind, BTW.

 

I think people who drive in traffic of any kind and at any speed without being buckled in are idiots, and I own two motorcycles, so I'm aware that I'm participating fully in the human experience of being somewhat hypocritical.
I'm also an adult, and I have legal agency to do stupid junk.
I'm something of a libertarian - so I appreciate some of the complexities of the argument.
Somebody invented the doublers for a reason...
THEN the ChiComms copied them and made them more affordable.
I do not actually HAVE them, since my car only chimes briefly when I bust 20 on a rural road or company parking lot before getting back out of the car to lock the gate - or I have tools on the front seat after me or my CFO forget to rebuclke.

Would I LIKE THE FREEDOM to disable the chime?
YUP, but that's not the world we live in - so I deal with it.......

If it get's too aggravating - I'll get the latch doublers.
