Classic Prius 2002 won't run

    I guess working for a wage wasn't so bad. I really wouldn't give the mechanics too much of a hard time, if you do they might realise they can make much more money in other fields like I did. :D

    it also promotes shortcuts and upselling of major service jobs, which of course are all good for the dealer's pocketbook.

    DH's favorite customers were the ones that insisted upon overmaintaining their cars. well those and the ones that undermaintained to the point where he had to do major work to restore their car. but his favorite part of the job, diagnostics? never, ever was enough to pay the bills.

    While this one really sounds like stuck throttle plate, it's also
    easy enough to hang a probe off the fuel pump power lead and *see*
    if it's getting power or not. This is basic basics that you'd apply
    to any car, and they shouldn't be using the "prius excuse" for not
    going through these fundamental steps.

    You have a good point there, I will be speaking to them early tomorrow and ask them if they have checked that circuit opening relay. And I will Bear68 (pun intended) in mind what you and Galaxee have said and try to control my rancor... ...I should know better as a friend used to be a service writer at the same dealership!

    Well, the car is back; Codes reported were:
    P1390-P1391-P3101-C1259 (not P3190, P3191).
    They replaced the ECM; Removed, cleaned and replaced the intake manifold, and charged the HV battery pack. They note that it "Smells like it is running on old gas / from exhaust & fuel cap"
    That is very odd as we purchase gas from a very high volume 24 hour Sunoco station near our home.
    They stated it was not covered under the 100k / 5yr extended warranty.
    All told they charged $321.30 for their time.

    Check with the gas station and see if they had any problems with a mix of diesel in the gas. That 'old gas' smell sounds suspiciously like diesel was the culprit.
