Do you think that Toyota would build a vehicle that would be sub-par in this area? Considering how advanced the Prius is, I doubt that something as basic as an exhaust would be overlooked. I'm sure it is built to last.

My exhaust is stainless steel lined with sod which uses the excess water to grow the seeds I place in there. Very green - indeed!

Mine is constructed of a rodinium-neutronium alloy. Impervious to phaser fire.

They were the big supplier until sometime around the 1960's when the deposits played out. Nowadays production (what there is of it) is mostly in East Africa. Production is very limited and often you just can't get any.

Unavailibilium is just a little more accessible than unobtanium, but both are becoming very expensive in these days of economic slowdown.

Wow, what are the chances of that. I'd buy a Powerball Lottery ticket!

Has anyone needed to replace the exhaust system in the second generation Prius? If so, at what mileage. I have almost 86,000 on my '04 and all is well.

The 2G system seems quite reliable; I haven't noticed posts reporting exhaust system replacement.

Higher-mileage Classic Prius sometimes need new catalytic converters because the HCAC (hydrocarbon absorption chamber) valve becomes sticky, especially in areas where salt is applied on the roads in the winter.

For 2G, that fancy and unreliable HCAC assembly was removed. The engine coolant heat recovery system took its place.
