There is no secret. Join the dark side (optional) and fold using nvidia GPU. If your computer have a PCIe slot and 6 pin power connector (most computer do), a 8800 GT (cost $120) upgrade will give you ~5000 ppd boost. :D

Sorry for the bump, but I am starting to fold for team PriusChat and I've got a question.

So, I think I've got this set up right. Anything I should know about folding? I just started today :). Also, can I fold for multiple teams? I'd like to help team Flight Sim World also.

There is no restriction/limitation. Each folding client have specific configuration. If you have :
    1. Multiple computers - you can setup the first computer to fold for one team and the second computer to fold for another team.
    2. A Quad CPU computer (multiple client capable) - you can run multiple folding client. One folding client set to team xxx and one folding client set to team yyy.
    3. Running CPU folding client and GPU folding client. CPU folding client can set to team xxx and GPU folding client can set to team yyy.

If you have problem setting up the client, post your problem and your computer setup. We're here to help. :)

Welcome, OrionIII - probably the most important things to know is there's a Folding at Home Community Forum where people are very helpful when you have problems - Folding Forum • Index page
And there's an FAH-WIKI with a lot of helpful articles in it - Main Page - FaHWiki

And, of course, you can ask questions here. What kind of computer(s) are you using for folding, and what kind of client (s) do you have set up?

I'm folding with Windows XP on an old desktop and an old laptop with the Windows 6.20 console client, and I'm folding on an AMD 64x2 machine and an Intel Q6600, using Vista Home Premium, and the clients are the console version 6.22 with the -smp option. That one's still a 'beta' client, this one just released at the beginning of August, so it requires a little more intervention on my part, but it gets lots more points per day than the single-processor on my older machines.

Since I have multiple clients, I use the FAH-MON software to monitor my clients - you can read about it in the FAH forum in the section for 3rd party software.

Grrrrrr, since the last SMP clients expired I have had nothing but trouble getting my machines back up and running with the "New and Improved" clients! Taking Chinalfr2's suggestion I purchased two used Nvidia 8800 GT's for $180.00 and will soon have a SLI setup that will hopefully net me 10K+ points a day. :D Anyway sorry I haven't been contributing but my Mac, Laptop, Desktop and work puter have been pretty much offline for folding purposes the last 1 to 2 weeksm thank goodness for the PS3. Looks like Jeannie will catch up soon. BTW we are sooooooo close to breaking into the top two hundred folding teams! :usa2: :peace: :clap2: :cheer2:  :usa2:

Wildkow, have you tried the new R2 version of the 6.22 client? It fixes the problem with Early End Units (EUE's). I've had none of those problems since switching to it, and my daily production is back up to where it was with 5.91. It's available in the Folding Community forum for the 6.22 client with -smp specified.

Alternatively, you can go back and install the 5.91 or 5.92 client - they've extended the expiration date to 11/1/2008.

I don't WANT to catch up to you - I want you to get your clients folding again so we can break that 200 mark.

I also have problem with the 6.22 client. It's not EUE causing the problem. If the computer reboot accidently, I lost the work unit due to corruption. I have lost work unit lost with 50-90% completed work. To resolved the problem, I'm running 5.91 client on Vista 64 and 5.92 client on Vista 32/XP. I removed the automatic startup client. I will have to manually start the client after computer rebooted.

Wildkow, folding with GPU is much more stable. Absolutely no problem with the client so far. I upgraded the NVIDIA drivers to the latest 177.83 drivers (PhysX enable). Lower the performance with a lost of 300-500ppd on my GTX260, but still managed to crank out 7000+ppd. I'm sure your will be pleased with the performance of of 8800GT. Looking forward on your 10000+ppd machine contribution.

FYI, Don't forget to add -forcegpu nvidia_g80 flag for Nvidia GPU folding. For CPU folding using client 6.22, please add -smp flag.

    More Celebrating to be done!

Priuschat.com has moved into 200th Place!
    Molang/Chinalfr2 has topped 2,000,000 ptspoints!

and That's huge! I soon hope to see even greater advances in the next couple of weeks,

Question for you guys... on my main computer (Pentium 4-single core 3.2ghz) I am using the FAH console (version 5.04). I recently bought a nvidia card (Quadro FX 1100) since I do video editing on this computer. Would I get more points (and help out the cause more) by switching to a GPU client? If so could you point me to the correct piece of software to download. Thanks... go team Priuschat!

Yeah for 200! My wife is now gaming on the PS3, so no more folding there. It also looks like my other machines are under performing. Guess it's time to check on my FAH clients.

Nice to see you around, Trevor, and I'm glad you're still folding with us.

Sorry, prberg, that you won't be able to use your Nvidia card - I haven't got a graphics card that can fold, either, and my desktop systems would require much better power supplies to support a good graphics card.

Jeannie, if your computer have a PCIE x16 (PCI Express) slot, you should be able to add an nvidia GeForce 8800GT or 8800GS. A 250W power supply will be sufficient.

    Hi guys,

having a small problem and thought you might be able to help. i posted this on the stanford forums but no response yet.

I had 4 computers folding.. all using the console 5.04 client. I was able to get another computer to add to the mix. I went to download the 5.04 client and now they only have the 6.20 console. ok so I got that one for the new machine.

the problem is that on my stats page it says I only have 4 active processors in the last 50 days. That can't be right. All my 4 machines are working great and I added the 5th one a week ago. The 5th computer has finished a few work units and even said 'results successfully sent'. I double checked.. and my user name and team # (priuschat) are correct in the log. Only wierd thing... everything I start the new machine it says 'Working on queue slot 04' as if it didn't send the other results? But it said it did...

can anyone help? I just want to be sure priuschat is getting all the points that it can (and that my results are actually being sent.

    thanks,
    -Peter B
