Bar Keepers Friend is a similar product. Both contain oxalic acid or something similar, and a very fine abrasive. The acid will dissolve water spots and rust stains, while the abrasive is fine enough to not scratch if used in moderation.

I'll second the Griot's fine glass polish. Several years ago, the first time I washed a brand new car I noticed there were what looked like water stains on the windshield, and to a lesser extent on the side windows, and nothing (glass cleaner, vinegar solution) would remove them. Got the Griot's cleaner, which worked great.

Thanks for the tip. I had the same problem when I had to park my Prius on the street. I just took it to my regular carwash, and it came off just fine. But how annoying! I just tried to avoid spots close to the sprinklers after that.

While steel wool won't scratch glass if used intelligently, don't try scotch brite, Don't ask me how I know.

I don't know if they have this product where you are, but it's called CLR Calcium/Lime/Rust remover and it's great for hard water spots. There's another product called Lime-Away that's not as good.

In certain cases, hard water stains can actually etch glass. This happened to me in a prior vehicle. In that case, no amount of scrubbing will get them out. But, catch them early with some CLR and you'll likely be ok.

Thank you! Now everyone won't think I'm trying to scratch their glasses on purpose! =)
