Get the entire EGR System Cleaned................. And read up in here about all of the other stuff that is going to go bad....
If it's low on water it IS the HEAD GASKET....100%
Don't see how you can judge a car with only 40,000 miles..... any car should be good with that low miles......... and the head gasket WAS NOT...
That's just about the miles that all hell can break loose.......... Head gasket to blow anytime....plus brake failure and traction battery.......

I used to travel.... you don't want to be several states from home and your tearing the battery pack apart to add a cell and balance the system....
