    The transaxle from the same car is listed on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for $750. car-part.com is where I found the engine.

    From what I could tell it sounded like it was coming from the bottom of the engine. We think a drop of the oil pan will give us our answer. If not, we'll pull the valve cover and then the head if needed.

    Are you guys ready for this? It threw a rod bearing. At $500 for a "new" engine with 23,000 miles on it, this one isn't worth rebuilding.

    The water pump on the old engine was leaking too (pictures attached).

    No big surprise on the water pump, but trashing the rod bearing after only 110,000 miles? Makes you wonder if there was a manufacturing defect, assuming that the oil was changed regularly. I suppose it is possible too that regular trips over e.g. Vail Pass with the pedal floored could have shortened the service life. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

    Great work. Amazing how much clearance there was on that bearing.

    I'm wondering whether you will remove the valve cover to see the condition of the valve train?

    After the transplanted engine from the 2009 featured in this thread start burning oil and the hybrid battery going out twice, this car is now in a junkyard. More details here
