Looks like the backlighting is failing.
A replacement MFD installed is $300 from places I’ve seen.

I spoke to someone about this.
    It’s sun damage.
The digitizer definitely has to be replaced and maybe the depending on the damage the lcd.

    now I have another question.
I haven’t pulled the MFD to verify the model # but according to Toyota the last 4 of the replacement is 7081 yet all the units I see on eBay that are 7080/7081 are the standard units not the nav unit.
    I have the nav unit.
    Is the catalog number incorrect.

the 7081 is the low-def model. It's actually -47081. Has 4 buttons (not 7 like yours) and is non-nav.

The picture in post #1 is also of a low-def unit.

Technically correct, lol. Allow me to fix that...

the 7081 is the low-def base model.

If it’s only the digitizer, it looks like the replacement part is cheap. Maybe $40

I just spent the $180 for a different unit.

I think there is a company that buys used MFD for $75 so I may ship the old one to them provided the replacement works.

Did all NAV units have Bluetooth

It's relatively important to replace an MFD with an identical model. I have about 15 mfds in my shop. I have two different test plugs for the different models. This is because different models have different pin-outs for receiving power. If the power supplied on the plug wires in your car-side harness does not match with the required 'power in' pins on the mfd, popping noises and smoke will come out of the mfd. I've accidently learned that lesson a couple times by plugging in the wrong test harness.

I understand. I will check prior to hooking up the replacement.

The replacement I purchased was the same part #.
    Everything works as it should.
    Setup Bluetooth without any issues.
