05 Won't Start, dash lights blink once

    Turn the headlights on...are they nice and bright?

    If not its either a dead battery or the hardwired fuse is blown in the fuse box under the hood. if you have good lights then its the hybrid battery.
    You'll never really know whats wrong until you get a HYBRID code reader and read the multiple codes the car has thrown.

    Check the oil too. Its probably empty.

    I have indeed thought that the 12V system could be the problem, which is why I have had the 12V battery charged and tested to find ample Cranking Amps and consistently tested the battery at 13 to 14 volts with my multimeter. All of the lights work well and bright before and after trying to start, radio works great, all of the electrics work great, so that makes me believe that the 12V battery is good. I work on cars regularly, so I know some of the basics to check, just learning the intricacies about the hybrid system.

    I bought the 2005 Prius knowing it had issues. 05 has 210xxx miles on it. I bought the 07 totaled from a front end collision, battery had just been rebuilt two weeks before by a local Toyota Tech. I have the spare parts to change over if anything is wrong.

    JC91006-thank you for the suggestion of the AM2 fuse, I will make sure to check that.

    How would I check the hardware fuse under the hood? Where is this fuse and how do I get to it?

    Well it sounds like you have a good handle on the basics but I've got to to ask:
    Have you tested the battery voltage WHILE you have tried to "start" it and nothing happens ?

    Is there a way to check the hybrid battery outside of taking it apart and testing every cell?

    And yes, Sam Spade, I have a multimeter and have been using it along steps in this process. You have stated how important it is to use said multimeter, but never actually said what specifically to check and what the values should be.

    That sounds like it would be a great way to test the battery, but I do not have a running and driving Prius to test it in.

    the 12v should be at least 12.4 volts, with the car off, after the car has been off overnight.

    Turns out the AM2 fuse was bad, and the inverter pump was completely fried. Transferred the one over from the 07 parts Prius (it had just been replaced) and it runs and drives like a dream, with the original battery!
    Turns out the 12v system was good, and the hybrid system is good as well. I never thought one fuse would cause so many problems.

    There's a recall on the inverter pumps that get shorted out.

    I helped a PC member today fix his inverter pump, these things are dying regularly.

    Sounds to me like the fuse did exactly what it was supposed to.......and that is to prevent a fire when the pump shorted out.

    I have this same problem right now. Please do you mean the engine/transmission oil?

    My inverter pump and the AM2 fuse were replaced, the dash lights still blink and shutdown - leaving an orange light on the power button.

    Please, I need help.

    12V battery was also replaced.

    Check the 12 volt battery voltage at the front jump point under the hood in the fuse box. Don't check it in the trunk it only really matters whats hitting the fuse box. There is a 100 amp fuse in the positive battery post assy on the battery. Checking it at the front jump point checks that fuse continuity.
