First time this ever happened to me-brake light on, red light in center of power switch. Car would not go into R or forward positions. Emergancy brake was not on, but brake light was on. Finally put the brake on, then off, and it finally went into gear. Brake light switch malfunction?

You might want to post this in the Gen II forum. This forum is for 2010 and later.

The brake switch is the most likely culprit. With a 2006, it is also possible that your 12V battery is getting weak.

I have scan gauge and the 12Volt is OK-must be the switch, although I rarely use the parking brake. Thanks for the input.

The parking brake won't stop you from putting the car in gear or starting it. It WILL fire off a buzzer if you try to drive away with it engaged.

The switch on the main brake pedal WILL dramatically effect whether or not the car will go to "ready". It's adjustable. Perhaps it's loose, or perhaps it's worn to intermittent.

I have an 06 Prius that lets me backup with the emergency brake still on with no audible warning. Does turning off the reverse beep also disable the emergency brake warning buzz?

I don't think it disables the warning, but as I recall the warning noise doesn't occur until you actually get moving at a few MPH. I only did it once (so far ;) ).

Pearl's reverse beep is disabled and the brake warning still sounded (in "D").
