I am Toyota certified and my prius will not start. I got into the car pushed the button and it just dimmly lit the maint required light. I think it may be the battery as it started right as the weather got cold. Please advice on whethet I should try changing the battery or have it towed in for free and pay Toyota.

You can jump start the car by carefully following the instructions in the Owner's Manual. The jump connection is under the hood. After you get started, I suggest you replace the 12v battery. It's on its last legs...

I am having someone at an independent shop change the 12V battery but I would like to find the DIY thread on the forum. I am having some trouble doing so. If anyone knows what to search and can provide a link that would be great. I am going in in the morning and will keep a close eye.

This Page by Hobbit may be of use. It's the best documentation out there I know of, but you don't need to do everything he does, such as the auxiliary 12 volt battery steps to preserve your memory/settings/clock.
