I'm going to pick up a used engine from a local junkyard this week and was wondering how heavy roughly the engine is? Is it something that a couple of guys could lift into the trunk of the Prius? Thanks.

@Ragingfit was saying 3rd gen is around 300 pounds, IIRC. 2nd gen would likely be about that too, maybe slightly less, but just a few pounds. I think they strap them to pallets and lift with a forklift, the big commercial salvage engine sellers? Sometimes crumple the oil pan maybe?

    That sounds high to me.

The 2004 New Car Features manual has both the 2003 and 2004 1NZ-FXE numbers side by side for comparison.

The 2003 was 86.6 kg (anywhere in the universe, as long as it isn't moving super fast), coming out to 190.9 pounds (on Earth). For 2004 it shaved off a half a kg, or bit over a pound for earthlings.

Now a number like 300 for the transmission, I'd believe. Hmm, wait, says here the 2004 was 236 pounds, filled with fluid.

I’ve bought Japanese motors before for both my Honda and Nissan. They never had crushed oil pans. They usually set them on an old tire. That keeps the oil pan from getting damaged.
