Normally that's a 4-hr drive in traffic. Now 1.5 hours with everyone off the roads.

I figure this might a good time to visit the Bath Co., Va. world largest pumped water elec storage plant in the remote rural mountains.

But I think think Gov is going to order stay at home at 2PM today.

The Saudis have already been there, done that, and learned a hard lesson about the U.S. bankruptcy laws. Many bankrupt companies here will reorganize, shed their massive debt load carried by investors, and quickly resume pumping under a new lower-cost structure:

This recent Saudi action was more aimed at Vladimir Putin than at the U.S.

Actually, just south of Lynchburg. Wife is from a little further south, Gretna.
I am in the country on 6 acres, but if I look the right place, I can see the traffic on US 29. We can definitely hear it at times.

That's dumb. Don't they know the reserve exists for other, more important reasons.

With your state paying nearly $0.80/gallon in federal and state fuel taxes, it will be extremely tough to get the pump price down to $1/g, even absent the CARB mandates.

States with tax loads of under $0.50/g, and even under $0.40/g (excepting Alaska), are far more likely to reach that price point:

    upload_2020-3-30_15-1-36.png
The federal portion is currently $0.184/g.

Seems like right now would be a great time to eliminate the road funding problem and double the fed road tax

That is also an (indirect) carbon tax, something I have long believed should be in place.

Virginia bifurcates to high tax and low tax (rural) portions of the state approx 50/50.
The Va. rural gaso tax is close to Missouri as the lowest except Alaska, New Jersey having decided to stop competing for lowest gaso tax honors. Also rural Va. does not have reformulated gaso, so that explains why Va. can be cheapest in the rural areas.

Va. has recently changed color from purple to blue, first order of business was increasing gaso taxes, which I agree we should probably do that here.

Just curious how many of you have county and/or municipal taxes added to gasoline, in addition to the federal and state taxes. More than 20 local governments have added their own little bite to Oregon gas prices. Closest to me is City of Eugene, which started out with 3 cents per gallon tax and quickly raised it to the current nickel a gallon.

I am unaware of any local fuel taxes in Washington State, and the webpages for the state's Department of Revenue and Department of LIcensing betray no hint of such.

We used to drive over to the next county to buy cheaper gas ... and dodge the potholes.

Virginia has 2% extra tax on the more populated regions for mass transit etc. Probably more than 2% now as they put a floor on it.

So when you see the API state tax numbers in the above earlier post, that is average tax for your state. But your specific area could be more or less/

My state puts that on the annual vehicle registrations, not the fuel, in the mass transit districts.

Or did, until another statewide rollback initiative passed last November. It is now tied up in the courts. One factor is that the tax rollback was approved by untaxed voters outside those transit districts, but defeated within those transit districts where voters had previously approved those taxes, and apparently wanted to keep them.
