Good to hear jprates ... perhaps it's just a culture thing. Talking of culture, we who drive on congested highways (some larger than 20 lanes across in both directions) find that what you feel is a low speed, as quite reasonable as highway speed ... not that we like it. Many in the U.S. drive for hours per day, below 45mph ... just because of traffic.

I've read this thread with great interest and have checked some related "links" but, the above quoted post has me wondering ...

... just how many GALLONS does this guy's tank hold?

    Have I "missed" something?

    I mean ...

... at 81.2 mpg, 10 gals would be 812 miles ... 13 gals would be 1055.6 miles; quite close to the miles driven as indicated above. If 22% fuel remained, then this guy has a tank capacity of approximately 16 gallons?

If our '08 Prius had a 16 gallon tank, I could get about 800 miles on a single tank without even trying ....

Yea, Japanese Prius has bigger gas tank without bladder system. They also tilt the car to fit more gas inside as shown in the pic in one of the post.

Driving conditions in Japan may be atypical by worldwide standards, but I think they must have influenced the design of the Prius, even though the car is now sold worldwide.

Similarly, I suspect the high cost of electricity and the limited number of people with garages in Japan is reflected in Toyota's reluctance to push forward with a PHEV program.

A Japanese TV station reported the 1000 mile challenge event.

Ken, thanks for posting. Although I can not understand, it is great to see a new type of sport developing.

I agree with you - I'll bet the bottom is slick panels and probably even WAXED like the rest of the car. And, notice the wheel skirt on the rear wheel. That has to be good for something on Cd.

I'm sure it has influence. Especially, since the designers and engineers will be driving their own Priuses at home in Japan. But, for improving the entire company of Toyota as a whole, they should be exploring PHEV for the rest of the world. Actually, I see an electric plug and large battery packs helping anywhere, regardless of where you live (unless your entire drive is down a huge hillside, and then back up the huge hillside).

I'm not sure I want to go that radical with my car. That spoiler might be just a bit too much. I do like the wheel spats on the rear wheel wells.

Thanks Ken for posting the video.
