I'm considering this cheap ebay 12 volt 55ah mobility scooter deep cycle agm battery. This battery is the same size as the stock OEM truestart battery. It's $107 delivered and cheaper than the factory dealership $275 truestart battery. The replacement battery has better specs 20 hr / 55ah vs 20hr/45ah. The terminal is screw down which I need to make adapter but otherwise it should fit in the same space.
    What do you guys think?

I also tried to desulfate my truestart battery and had no success in restoring the battery so I'm looking for good replacement at good value.

How long do you guess you might keep the car ?
The "scooter" battery might not last as long.

There really is nothing wrong with what you propose to do......IF you can solve the connection problem without reversing the connections and causing a big mess.

I'm thinking another 3 years or more. This car has been bullet proof and a pleasure to drive. So if the battery last 3 years then I'm happy. I know the Truestart battery last about 7 years so it would workout about the same or more expensive if only last 1 to 2 years. My aunt scooter battery is 3 year old and she drive that thing everyday.

Got the AGM battery and I'm happy for the cost and value for the battery. It's consider more powerful and stronger battery then a typical AAA, autozone, diehard or any aftermarket battery. I feel the truestart battery from the dealership is the best replacement but this is good value for cheap.
Bought on ebay and arrived at house 20 hours later. Very fast delivery.

Since it had screw down terminals. I used left over wrench bits that we're the size of original terminal thickness for Prius batteries. The battery bolted down no problem.
Battery is been running great for the last week no problem.
Only issue is the battery is slightly taller by 1/2 inch and isn't a proper fit. The Tray that covers the battery sticks up now a 1/2 inch.

so when you say 'the same size as the stock oem battery', you mean different size and different terminals?:p

To be fair I didn't know until I bought it and tried to install it. The online measurement we're really close to stock OEM so it fit length wise, width wise but height was off by 1/2 inch. With a larger battery came with more 55AH verse 45AH. The trade off might be worth it and end of the day.

Any updates? I now own a 2006 Prius that I need to put some time into getting to know as well as some performance mods to increase the fuel efficiency back to stock. This one is out of my mind.

    How's yours?

Update: 9/12/2023 since June 2021 this battery has worked Flawlessly. Over 2 years and I feel it has never died in my Prius once. If it last 1 more year it's paid it self off. I also have 2000 watt inverter attached during camping trips. The battery runs for an hour no problem. I also usually have the Prius in ready mode to keep the battery chartered too.
I recently checked on thr cost for these batteries, and the price is still very reasonable. I highly recommend these batteries.
