it would be nice if someone posted a simple procedure in a sticky. of course, there wouldn't be much to talk about on priuschat after that gets put to bed

There is always some drain on the battery (12V) when any system on the car is turned on, intentionally or not. Why worry about it? In fact without precise technical instructions, why even suggest that it should be checked???
To be precise Bisco, how does one check whatever it is your talking about? I need mechanical procedures, voltage levels, what part of the Toyota manual did you get this information from? Most importantly, have you accomplished this procedure yourself?

I think that’s really a safe procedure, (trickle charging) especially in cold climates.

As now explained by Prof. Kelly’s video, 12 Volts is OK!, You can measure the slight current drain that continuously exist on all vehicles nowadays, called “Quiesent current draw” You can ask Toyota to do that and perhaps checkout the “ 12V charging and Converter Operation” Procedure. This can be found on one of these threads, it is done by Prof. Kelly and done very well. This will clear up many thoughts about the 12V battery. This video can also be found on Youtube.

Yes, agree on all aspects. If it’s technical most of the dealership people are totally unqualified. I had to show THREE workers where the 12 Volt checkposts were on a showroom Prius (2005) that the dealership had let drain down. The workers were standing around with the charger ready and the pos and neg leads in their hands wondering where to put them. I felt sorry for them and showed them.

Fabrication seems to be allowed if not encouraged.

without fabrication, how can you manufacture anything?

Well, not a perfect test; I should have popped the hood last night when we got home, but anyway:

This morning, popped the hood by opening the passenger side door, which still maybe "wakes up" the car some? Then measured voltage at the quick-connect cable I have installed, got 12.78. Then opened the driver's door, let the brake pump whir, then checked voltage again, got 12.60.

    How 'bout that...

I spent about a decade steel detailing and checking, very interesting stuff. Not fabricating this...
