153,000 Dead battery, 2012 Cii

    I'm still in the process of getting the codes and so at cost from dealer.


    153,000 m
    2012
    Prius C 2

    I talked highly of this car and my savings until 5:07 this morning.

    Estimated cost repair 5,000$ currently.

    Still owe 7,000$.

    Not sure what to do. I'm stumped.

    Sorry for your recent issues.

    What if any symptoms did the car display? Do you have the original 12v battery or has that been changed out? What dealer are you using and have you tried calling around? Do you have any code reader or solely reliant on the dealer to pull the codes?

    agree with ray, can you give us more detail? 5k is outrageous, educate yourself.

    Another option to dealer help is Mac's just up the road from you in Ashland. They work on hybrids and might be able to help(depending on what you need or figure out).

    Once I get more information I will update this thread.

    The service the rep said that almost every code was on. I didn't see that. I had no evidence of any issues with anything.

    Rep called to say that a fuseable link was blown. And must be replaced to continue their diagnostic.

    Before I hand out any money, I want to call goodwill.

    Anyone have that number handy?

    I want to thank you all for your support. I'm still in shock. I feel like the car would be considered totaled if it was accident repair.

    What happened this morning around 5:07 AM? With a blown fusible link, did you try jump starting the car? Do you have all the codes from the service rep?

    These will all be questions you will have to answer when calling, so best to have the answers ready. And if you have them and are willing to share, there are a lot of helpful folks here.

    This might not even be battery replacement territory yet.

    But knowing why the fusible link blew will help.

    I did try jump starting. I didn't see the fusable link blown. "Thick white cable in the driver side box under the hood"

    Monday, I will stop by and get the rest of the info, printed and explained. I want to physically the part replaced.

    With that information I will call.

    The dealership told my wife worst case, Hybrid High Voltage Battery replacement.

    They told me the need to fix the link to get more diagnostic information.

    Was a light left on last night or a door left open? When you jumped the battery, was it from under the hood? How did you hook up the cables to jump it? From another car? A jump pack?

    Typically the fusible link blows if the polarity reverses and this is the protection of the HV battery. So you may have gotten lucky and it is the fusible link only. This needs to be replaced regardless.

    How many miles on her Serif?
    You are covered to 100k miles.
    If you are over 100k miles, do not replace HV battery with first asking Toyota USA for assistance in cost.
    Dealer may not help you on this, so be sure to ask us for help if at all possible.
    You do not have to be in a rush (can take a week to get Toyota USA ruling) unless you absolutely need the car immediately.
    We can tell you how to do this.

    OK- I see 153k miles

    My advice. Fix the fusible link and replace the 12 volt battery.

    Go to any other Toyota Dealer on earth for a second opinion of every thing else.

    I jumped it with my tundra, under the back seat. Never noticed anything pop or anything.

    But I have to get the link fixed to know the real damage.

    Was the tundra running to jump it or did you just connect it with the truck off? How long did you have the 2 connected? We're the jump cables Smart cables or standard jump cables? Did the cables touch at all during the process? How did you connect the 2 batteries and in what order?

    After the jump did the car go into "ready" mode?

    i would pay for the link and diagnosis, and 12v if it's bad. then see what the outcome is before calling toyota. they can't help if they don't have a diagnosis, and at 150k, that's your dime.

    Heavy-duty cables
    Tundra was running
    Grounded the car then truck.
    Power lead on car, then truck.
    After 3 minutes. The horn blew.
    I hit the unlock door on my kios.
    It stopped, I unhooked in reverse order.
    Turned the key, it some power.
    Ready came on.
    Windows, radio and lights still would not work.
    Car would show the same "Check Hybrid System" code.
    The engine would turn over for a sec then turn off very rough sounding.

    I never saw any signs of power hitting the ground. I'm not saying it couldn't have happened, but I never had that happen before.

    I have needed a few jumps before and have given plenty. Normally I ride with a smart jump box. Because of the holidays I made room.

    I'm hoping to get more insight after they replace the fuse cable and learn what's really wrong.

    Currently I owe 14 more months on the car. That payment and the battery "if that's the issue and I don't get support" would put me in the negative pretty bad.
