My friend in insurance told me and cases like these "it would have been better if I had been T-boned this morning than have a battery like that go out".

That seriously stunned me. I'm still not sure off he was bs'ing me.

I believe the order should be:

    1. positive of Prius then
    2. positive of the jump vehicle
    3. Negative or ground of jump vehicle
    4. Negative or ground of Prius
    5. Remove in the reverse order of the above
might want to check the owners manual for other steps, but I believe there is a step for putting the car into "accessory mode" before you then put it into "on" mode to try and get the car to display "ready". It also provides guidance on when to disconnect the jump vehicle (pretty sure it is after the engine starts).

    Hope this helps.

For those playing along in the home game:

The correct number of times to jump your Prius 12 volt battery before replacing it, is One.

The correct number of times to jump another car with a Prius is Zero.

The cost in Money and Time of limping along with a bad battery is huge.

That's pretty the opposite of the connection sequence I'm familiar with, which is:

    Ok vehicle positive
    Dead vehicle positive
    Ok vehicle negative (neg. post)
    Dead vehicle ground (bare metal)

    Disconnect in opposite order.

I'm not sure of the ramifications, if any, of doing it in your order.

the problem with t boning is, you'd have to have insurance for being upside down. (which you may have) but what i see is, you're putting serious miles on your car, and need to account for maintenance in your business plan.

Ray got it righter. From the 3rd gen manual:

    upload_2017-1-13_16-18-16.png

Maybe I'll print that out, attach to underside of hood.

Read it once 7 years ago. Not too bad for a young guy;).

I keep the manual in the car along with the jump pack. That way the one time I need it, I have everything I need at my disposal :).

On 4x6 photo paper. Have some sticky backing adhesive. :)

I've attached a jpeg, set up for 4x6 printing, not "borderless", at 100%

This only works if you use the underhood jump point and it is placed under the hood .

Op used the physical battery under the seat.

    Good suggestion though(y).

Great, I had it exactly backwards.

I do not think I had a place in the driver side fuse box to clamp too.

I looked it up and it sure looked different.

By the way, what does op or o/p mean?

I have a 2010 Prius II so below is what it's fuse box looks like:

I had a charger on our Prius recently and here is how I use the clamps for positive and grounding, useful for a jump pack with short cords:

Check your fuse box out and I think you'll find something similar.

OP means Original Post or Original Poster. Shorthand saves some typing ;).

Yes I drive 110+ any given work day. Which is averaging 6 days a week.

    Only down time is holidays.

Yes I was unaware that the battery would go before I paid the car off. Along with the cost of a HV battery.

    Live and learn.

still, even if it is the battery, you can do much better than 5k. and the rest of the car is just broken in.
the batteries themselves are around 2k, and you can find someone to install for a few hundred. or better yet, hopefully toyota will help.

I really hope so. I'm dreading getting stuck with a hefty bill. I need great gas efficiency to make my job and distance work for me and my family.
