Didn't find one of these threads in the Gen3 space, so here we go:).

For those that reached 200,000 miles, please post information about your ownership experience.

    Some questions to think of...

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Do you maintain it?
    2) Did you replace the 12v battery?
    3) Did you replace the transaxle fluid? How often?
    4) Did you replace the brake pads?
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
    6) How often do you change your oil? Does your Prius consume oil? What brand / product did you use?
    7) How about posting a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?
    8) Did you install an oil catch can? How often do you inspect or dump it?
    9) Have you cleaned the egr circuit? How frequently?
    10) Any other maintenance?

Curious to see others input and thoughts(y).

    Just hit 200k miles tonight:).

    Answers below:
    1. Hv battery is original and I installed the Prolong equipment at 149k miles doing a top end balance every 6 months and a 2 cycle reconditioning every 6 months
    2. Yes once at 189k miles and 8.5 years
    3. Replaced the fluid twice: 140k miles and 175 k miles (should have done the 140k mile one earlier but I’ll remember that for next time)
    4. Brake pads are original and still have 5mm on the front and 4 mm on the back:)
    5. Around 50 mpg (I’ve reset the system many times but it’s right around there)
    6. Every 10 k miles. Our 2010 consumes a quart of oil every 5-6 k miles since 120 k miles. I’ve increased the viscosity to 0w-40 and the oil consumption has maintained through the use of BG Products Extended Life moa and BG Products EPR.
    7. Picture below (along with the palindrome that came 2 miles later as I pulled into the garage)
    8. Yes at 175 k miles and have caught about 10 ounces in 25 k miles. I monitor the dipstick on the catch can as I mounted it to the front cross member and based on not catching much, I empty it every oil change
    9. Cleaned the egr circuit twice: once at 120 k miles and again at 175 k miles. Plan on doing so every 50 k miles based on the amount of buildup
    10. Preventative maintenance for:
      1. engine water pump at 180 k miles
      2. Inverter water pump at 199 k miles
      3. Fuel pump at 199 k miles
      4. Timing cover leak fixed at 90 k miles (under extended warranty)

Congrats Ray on the 200k mile club. Do you have a Fuelly account (or similar) to help calculate total fuel spending or MPG records etc?

And good luck with the new Prime too! Now you try for 300k on it;)(y)

@Raytheeagle , for the newbies, what is the prolong equipment on the HV battery?

    Where can you purchase?

Will dealer install or is this considered a modification?

    No fuelly account:(.

But with a Prime I might not start one either:).

    I’ll give 300k a shot though for sure(y).

The Prolong equipment is an aftermarket setup tailor made to extend the life of the hv battery. It is also the best tool for rebuilding a failed battery, so potential dual purpose;).

Equipment can be purchased from Hybrid Automotive and the harness you install is not that difficult to do. Once you have the harness installed, it’s plug and play:).

The dealer would consider this after market, but they’ll never get inside my battery to inspect(y).

im reaching 230K miles now. Original HV battery. Changed brake pads 2 times. I;m just wondering how much long or how many more miles you think I can go before I need a new battery ?

    That’s a crap shoot;).

Since you’re in SF, how long does your battery last in traffic:whistle:?

How fast does it cycle between full and empty, and how full does it show on the display?

Do you monitor the battery charge or block voltages with an app like Torque, Dr. Prius or Hybrid Assistant?

Cleaned the egr circuit stem to stern yet?

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Do you maintain it?
I've never actually broken the pack apart. I just made sure to park it above halfway. I noticed I got better gas mileage earlier on staying above half on the battery bar. Now that my scan gauge displays SOC I try to stay between 58-62% (if it goes above that it is fine but the car just will burn it off in acceleration and doesn't really hold charge until around 62% and below) for best mpg. If it goes below my 58% I make sure to charge back up in the next little bit. Mostly just using the battery for bump-starts, engine off neutral coasting, etc... Very rarely do I drive in e mode unless I'm just pulling up to a stoplight.
    2) Did you replace the 12V battery?
12V battery replaced with an Oddysey extreme AGM battery: 2/2022
So original battery lasted for about 12 years.
    3) Did you replace the transaxle fluid? How often?
    100k
    4) Did you replace the brake pads?
Front pads were replaced at the dealer before I bought it just before 100k.
Rear sliding pins seized up around 190k and then i replaced the rear brakes!
Also mpg went back to 50+ when the pins were lubed up so definitely lube them every 1-2 years. My mileage increased about 20% after that. Mileage was low 40s for about 6 months while i was moving so i never had a chance to investigate but I am glad they seized up in the driveway. lol
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
Its been mid-50s except the period where the brakes were dragging.
    6) How often do you change your oil? Does your Prius consume oil? What brand / product did you use?
No brand preference. 0w-20. Every 4000 miles now but history-wise it was 5k for half and 10k for half.
I do make sure to buy Toyota oil filters in bulk from a dealer.
Car consumes excess oil above 3000 RPM now, but below 3000 rpm oil consumption is about 1/2qt every 4000 mile oil change. This is okay though I stay below that pretty much all of the time.
    7) How about posting a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO?
I will have to add it on my phone.
    8) Did you install an oil catch can? How often do you inspect or dump it?
No I have a sneaking suspicion oil catch cans catch about 5-10% of the oil going through the system and that isn't enough to make a difference.
    9) Have you cleaned the egr circuit? How frequently?
I cleaned it but realized the car ran with the egr valve electrical connector unplugged so I just left it unplugged from 190k and forward. If I ever sell the car i will plug it back in and get it cel free, but realistically i will drive this car into the ground.
But we monitored coolant over the last 10k and it is still on the dot parked in the same spot we poured the coolant in so it isn't consuming a drop.
    10) Any other maintenance?
All standard maintenance intervals plugs, coolant, filter etc...
    PCV valve replaced around 180k.

I am gambling on taking the car to 300k+. We will see how far we go. Besides being a scratch and dent car it drives very well.

Just to confirm, your original spark plugs last for 256k miles, and still look OK, right?

What happens if the EGR valve electrical connector is unplugged? Is the valve open or closed? Does it give a CEL and affect smog?

Yes, works fine just a preventative change. These are hotter ones SC20, so my assumption is the second sets after factory ones SC16.
I had bought these after having a misfire problem a year ago but resolved already, just waiting to be installed.

Valve is spring loaded shut so it stays closed. Yes it will give you a p0401 and you will fail smog. I don't have smog though. It runs a map that doesn't have egr in the mix so you effectively are doing an egr delete.
I'm convinced if everyone would unplug the egr connector gen 3 priuses would stop blowing up.
You could clean it too but its a waste of time if you don't need to pass smog.

    But you have cleaned it?

Not sure if it's just exposure, but seems like they're getting progressively "crusty" towards cylinder 4 end?

    Time will tell...

I haven't since started owning @230k and it was dealer maintained so I think it might not be cleaned. I know it definitely needs asap I remember from egr pipe was really bad when I did intake manifold in summer, but not have a chance to clean since then

My daily commuter 2013 Prius surpassed 200k miles. Still running great. Hoping to make it to 300k. 90% highway miles and always garaged. Just regular maintenance. Will visit hybrid pitstop for egr and intake valve cleaning. CE57D3DF-E619-4D16-892B-07B40716BBD6.jpeg CDEB1E2C-B85C-478E-81F8-BF7EB3B9C9C7.jpeg

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No
    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? At around 180k.
    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Yes. Around 170k.
    4) Did you replace the brake pads? Yes. Around 180k. Still had some life left but decided to swapped them out.
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Around 49 mpg.
    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Every 5k religiously after 100k miles. Full synthetic 0w-20 or synthetic blend from local mechanic.
    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? Attached.
