Wow. Wouldn't expect there to be any detrimental effects on the battery though, right? Lifespan is much more determined by age than usage, I would think.

That does indeed seem to be the case in general.

My pleasure, we'll see if you get stuck at 299,999 as well. When you send me the next pic, I'll post it in the 299,999+ mile club thread.

I hit 200K miles last weekend. Only problems were a CV joint (or similar) at 35K miles covered under warranty, and the inverter coolant pump replacement at 191K (which might be covered due to the recent recall). I am on just my third set of tires, Michelin HydroEdges now.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No
    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Yes, around 140K miles, to be safe.
    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? No
    4) Did you replace the brake pads? No
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Around 47.5 MPG
    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Mobil 1 every 5 - 10 K miles
    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? nope

I am almost ready for a new Prius, but my 2004 keeps going strong.

I proudly have 265,000 on my '05 Prius and have had no problems at all until now - now I have mystery noises they are having problems diagnosing. I was hoping to hit 300k...so I hope they figure this out. Don't want to trade it in until the 2012 electric hybrids are available.

That is really good for any vehicle. But I think a lot of vehicle manufacturers are trying to make a better vehicle because of pressure from the public. My '93 Chevy 1500 W/T pick-up with a 4.3 is all original and it stillstarts and runs great. I have only changed the clutch and did the regular maintenance stuff and it has 237,000+ miles on it. I drive it every day in the winter snow and only to haul things and move friends in the summer. I'm sure that it will last longer than anyone really expected. I also give glory to my God for seeing it to this point.

just got my first prius and already i need to replace my catalytic converter. help!

everyone! my mom just bought me a 2002 prius with 163,000 miles on it and i'm really excited. it's wonderful to drive and i like it better than my former (also old) car. however, the check engine light came on and the dealer told me i needed a new catalytic converter, and it would cost $1718!!! that's too expensive for me. what is this part, anyway? i looked online and some sites say i can buy a replacement part for $174. can someone explain why there's such a HUGE price difference? i'm not very car-savvy. thanks!

Re: just got my first prius and already i need to replace my catalytic converter. help!

Two reasons for the low price:

    1. The correct part includes a hydrocarbon absorption chamber and valve, upstream from the catalytic converter. You will not be able to obtain a similar part on the aftermarket.

    2. The catalytic converter that costs $174 probably will not fit without a considerable amount of cutting and welding, and likely will not last more than 30K miles.

There are a couple of reasons why you might need a new catalytic converter: either the HCAC valve has stuck (due to rust) or the catalytic converter itself has failed. If the former, it might be possible to temporarily unstick the valve and lubricate it with high temp grease. If the latter, it might be possible to cut off the old catalytic converter and weld a new aftermarket converter into the exhaust pipe. I recommend that you consult with your local muffler shops to see what they can suggest.

nothing was fixed, 3 set of tires, 2 set of spark plugs, 2 gear oil changes, 2 pcv, normal synthetic oil changes, and a couple of light bulbs front and rear,
fyi my shocks on the hatch are on there way out, guess i have to pull out the old broomstick, other than that im almost at 300,000 hope the odometer goes over, if not i will trade unless they can fix it.. Most likely will try and see if the new hatchback model comes out, or i might go jetta tdi has more room, and i probably will take a 50 a week it on the extra gas but will see.
