After many Tauruses I bought a 2007 touring edition. After 3 years I just went over 200,000 miles. Only thing I've changed are the fluids, the tires and two headlights. Astonishingly reliable vehicle. Not only have I saved a TON on repairs over my Taurus experience, I have saved over $13,000 in gas. Incredible.

Whoa! It has taken me just under 10 years to get to my Prius total of 199,169 miles. And yes, I'm counting that as qualification for the club... since I upgrade before I can even come close to 200,000 miles. In fact, I'm looking forward to a plug-in... which will start the odometer all over again.

The OP appears to be directed to hearing about ownership experiences on Prius that have logged 200K miles. If ownership of several Prius with cumulative odometer readings adding to 200K was the criteria, I also would qualify with 104K on my 2004, 21K on my 2007, and 75K on my 2001 when it was sold.

Any types of 200k miles experience / POV is welcome. The ultimate goal is for the potential future owners doing research as well as for the current owners what to expect.

OK, then I can claim 245K miles of experience with Toyota hybrid vehicles as of this writing, as my HiHy has 45K miles on the odometer. Following is a list of the major warranted problems that my Toyota hybrid vehicles have experienced. I posted repair details on the 2004 when it hit 100K miles, on the 100K mile club message string (post #290).

    1) a failed traction battery: 2001 Prius, 2006 HiHy
    2) a failed MFD: 2004 Prius
    3) a driveability issue where the car refuses to accelerate: 2001 Prius - replaced engine ECU. 2004 Prius - reprogrammed engine/hybrid vehicle ECUs
    4) an electric steering gear failure: 2001 Prius
    5) a brake failure where the skid control ECU and brake pedal stroke sensor were replaced: 2007 Prius

I can finally say that I am in this club as of this morning...YAY!! :cheer2:
I have not replaced the HV Pack yet, but I did replace the 12V battery at 175k. Transaxle fluid has been changed along with radiator and inverter coolant twice. One set of front brakes at 148k and rears at 164k along with a new water pump and front axle seal at 164k. I use Mobil 1 Extended and change it every 15k miles with an oil filter change at every 7500. My lifetime MPG is around 52mpg and other than the maintenance items noted above, this car has been solid. I highly recommend Goodyear Comfortreads at 42/40 as my current set has 90k miles on them, but need to be replaced soon. This car is the best vehicle I have ever owned maintenance-wise. My highest recommendation is to do the seat rail extenders if you are over 5'10" tall. They truly made this a much more comfortable car!! It took me 5yrs and 50 days to reach 200k.:D

Congratulations. I am wondering if anyone here has reached 300,000 miles?

I find John1701's posts irrelevant to this thread, because I read it to know how 200k mile Prius cars have fared.

I don't really care all that much that he posts here, since it is obviously important to him to be part of the party. The only downside is dilution of useful posts.

I wonder if any of Vancouver cabbies might be convinced to post here. /*That*/ would be so interesting.

My original post asked for information about ownership experience. Either that is with a single vehicle or multiple generations of vehicle, I think they are very good to know.

I myself is limited to a single vehicle (gen2). John is on his third Prius (and all 3 generations) and Patrick has two generations plus HH ownership experience. As long as poster disclose the number of vehicles they owned, it only add value to this thread, IMHO.

    Now:
    2002 - Gen I - Mileage: 262,000 (mine)
    2005* - GenII - Mileage: 93,000 (her's)

*"the deer fighter" - been hit on the right by a buck, hit/kicked on the left by a doe and took another doe across the hood... 3 seporate events. And the wife is a conservative/careful driver! (seriously)

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
    no (neither car)

    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery?
    yes 2002 / no 2005

    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?
    (I _think_ so)

    4) Did you replace the brake pads?
    eventually on the '02

    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
    '02 started at 47-52, now 38-41

    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?
'02 at least every 10k-15k, whether it needs it or not :) - when I'm doing my own, I use Pennsoil high mileage. Otherwise what ever the shop has. (not synthetic)

Should hit 300k next spring on mine.

This is interesting, I wonder why. Prior posts have noted a loss of fuel economy when the 12V battery is on its last legs. What is the trend in FE over the past year ?

    Currently at 216,016 miles.
I am the third owner of a 2004 Prius I purchased in Sept 2009 with 186,000 miles on the odometer. First owner worked at a Toyota dealer and sold to a neighbor about a year later at 16,000 miles. Second owner had a long commute. Car was very clean. I was told it had received all recommended maintenance, that the small battery had been changed about 180,000 miles and the rear brakes about 185,000 miles.
At 195,000 engine light came on. Drove it to a dealer the next day. A piston had become unseated in the brake system (drivers rear). $90.00 fix well worth meeting a Prius mechanic. Took it in for a service overall checkup the next week. Replaced the front brake pads and was told everything else, including the battery pack, was fine.
Something cut a tire couple months ago, so I put on 4 Goodyear Fuelmax tires.
Previous owners had Mobil One 5-30 oil in it and I continue its use. I think the previous owner may have stretched the oil changes. My first changes at 4,500 mile intervals seemed a bit dirty at the change. I'm at 6,000 miles on this change and the oil still has a nice color to it. It uses perhaps 1/2 quart between changes.
I have replaced both front headlight bulbs. Took my time, drank a beer, took off the front bumper...easy repair.
Only came with one "smart" key. Ran it through a wash in my pants pocket. Its not quite as smart as it used to be. And maybe neither am I.
    Driving like I always have:
    Cold weather 44 mpg
Hot weather 48.5 mpg Both figured at the pump.
Likes-many. Dislikes - the uncomfortable drivers seat and the glare on the dashboard in bright sunlight. A dash cover is on the way.

P.S.- My best vehicle ever - I purchased a new 1988 4WD Extended Cab Toyo pickup and let it go at 235,000 miles 11 years later. It needed a new timing chain. I live near the beach and it had a ton of rust.
Thanks all for the excellent forum!

    Hey all,

I hit the 200K mark this evening!! Bought the car brand new Oct. 27th 2005. I've only had to do regular maintainance (fluids, filters, spark plugs), on my 4th set of tires, only failed part was a noisy front drivers side wheel bearing this summer. Put an Optima yellow top in last fall only because the original was 4 years old and I wanted to replace it on my terms. What a great ride this thing is!!

    Regards,

    Joe

Occurs to me that a companion thread to this one for Prii that have died and went to heaven before 200k miles unrelated to accidents would let us grossly estimate long term Prius longevity.
