200,000 mile seafoam?

    I have a 2004 gen 2 prius that is soon to have its 200,000 mile birthday and I was wondering about the pros and cons about seafoam. The engine is a oil burner and definitely has some good carbon buildup and valve tick. I have read that putting seafoam in the gas will not do too much harm, but I was wondering more about adding it to the crankcase and doing a air intake seafoam soak as well.

    You should NOT put any solvents in with your crankcase oil.......especially on a high mileage engine.
    The sludge it loosens might do more harm than good.

    In the gas should be no problem. That is what it was originally designed for. Probably won't do any good either.

    In general, a little carbon buildup over 200K miles isn't the disaster that it's made out to be either.
    And pouring stuff down the intake might do more harm to the sensors than good too.

    The process is sometimes good for stuck rings but if there is a ring problem it is probably wear and not sticking.

    My 203k 2007 was burning a fair amount of oil , but when I switched to 0-20w Toyota syn oil from Mobile one syn it uses alot less between changes .

    Some of the oil cleaners say that if you are going to add it to the oil on a high mileage engine the oil pan should be removed and cleaned first.

    Interesting, had planned on moving up a grade from the Toyota 0-20w as summer is near.

    Now I need to research this again.

    Also thought most of my oil usage was from higher freeway speeds.
