    1. What is your means to decide the 12V battery is good?
    2. Get Mini VCI to retrieve the DTC.

    NOT a good test.

IF......it reads only 12.6 while the charger is running, then your battery is SHOT.....because it needs to be at least 13.2 and probably would be much higher than that.

ALSO....that noise coming from the back could be a sign of a loose battery cable arcing when the current starts to flow.......IF that is where the battery is located.

Note: a Prius really doesn't "crank" in the conventional sense.

Replaced 12 v battery and no change. Cranks for 1 second. Evidently main battery needs a charge.

It's the main hybrid battery that provides the power to start the electric motor that in turn starts the petrol engine.

Good good. As long as you realise there is no conventional starter motor. As to the connection point. There isn't one unless you want to hack into the connections.

So your either employing Toyota to charge it or searching this forum to build a special charger. Point is that you just don't want to flatten the hybrid battery.

You only get about 5 no-start attempts before you drive the big hybrid battery too low. Then the car will not be able to start until you charge back up the big battery.

Build or buy a high voltage charger and charge up the pack. Or pay the dealer $$$ to do it.

Then, next time before you try to start it give yourself the best chance by doing a few things.
Sop up the extra oil that has collected in the intake, just below the throttle bod.
    Clean the throttle body.
    Clean the MAF.
Get some starter fluid. Squirt a bit down the throttle body and quickly hop in car and turn the key, then quickly hop back out and keep squirting fluid until the car takes over and evens out.

I've got some gadgetry that would probably work (if slowly, no more than 0.3 A), and might be open to a short road trip later in the week....

Thanks for help. How can we connect so I can try charging main. Does it need to be exposed to connect? How does it work?
