Welcome to PriusChat! How long any Prius lasts depends a lot on how carefully it is driven, how well it is maintained, and some degree of luck! It's rather like asking, well, "…so, how long is a piece of string?" - Good luck, I'm sure you'll find the answer here!

Deja, You are in the position to best answer that question. With enough time and money it could go to 500K or higher.

With that many miles, you're well into unknown territory. It would not be terribly surprising for almost any part to need replacing any day. I personally wouldn't use it as my only means of transportation. If you can DIY and can afford to have it off the road occasionally for repairs, it's not bad. If you want 100k mostly trouble-free miles out of it, you'd be much better off starting with a car that has a third of the miles.

if you take care of it, it will take care of you. the fact that its 14 years old, and already has 300,000 miles tells you all you need to know. all the best.(y)

It could run well for the next 50 years if you have enough money, technical skills, parts supply, gasoline supply, etc.; just look at the Cubans and their 1940's/50's Fords/Chevys.

Common to see on forums. I admit I've done it too.

i think we need more details. how much did you pay, how much more do you have for a newer car, how much do you think you can get for it?

As bisco said we need more info, but based on the info you've given so far...your purchase was not something I would have done...and I am a Mechanic and have money. Sorry, but I think most were dancing around saying this out right. Don't shoot the messenger.

I only paid 700$ off craigslist .. Ive spoken with the seller and I've told him the same thing that i think with that many miles plus a completely dead 12v battery i feel like it might be too much for me to Handle but im really not sure. This is my very first car ever . we've made arrangements for me to get my money back if i dont want it . any suggestions , opinions & advice ?

Respectfully...in your situation...get your money back and go buy a used Corolla or Civic with 80,000 miles or less. That's coming from a very seasoned Mechanic/Husband/Father.

...about whether we would buy our spouses again with that kind of mileage? My reply...there's no way in hell I'm giving up my Wife of 30 years, two beautiful children...and half my sh-t. ;)
